That is probably my favourite spider-man moment of all time, and that page is arguably the peak of the whole Superior Spider-Man shebang.

It was more of a wristlock that Black Panther did to Surfer. Incidentally, do not image search "full nelson" with safesearch off with other people around.

Imagine a full nelson wrestling hold. Now imagine this instead applied by a man to a lady's legs while he sexes her. Now just imagine pages and pages of images of this.

I always loved Pete going after Fisk after Aunt May was shot. It was another of those "Spider-Man has been holding back" moments but there's also this scene: Just something about him slapping the poo poo out of Kingpin over and over is funny and brutal at the same time.

I like that the other guys in the prison aren't cheering or rioting or whatever, they're just standing there all "Oh geeze...".

Wasn't there a fight where Peter got really mad at someone and used his spider powers to rip some of his skin off? Like, sticking his fingers to his face and then pulling his hand away. Angry Spider-Man is loving scary because he usually holds back, when he's mad he can seriously gently caress someone up.

In most of them I don't think it's the power or the damage, it's the fact he's not quipping while he's doing it. He's well known in universe as a normally light-hearted figure even when he's webbing guys up for violent crimes, to see him just mercilessly beating on someone without the jokes means that poo poo has gone wrong, and that worries people.

I think it also helps that it's relatively rare. I mean there are dozens of examples but it's a 'cut loose' moment that doesn't happen every other story. Whereas these days you barely get a Superman story where his eyes aren't glowing red, Black Bolt talks all the time, and other cut loose moments have become so commonplace that their lose their impact. Spider-Man going full Spider-Man is still a reasonable treat because his stories spend so much time with him getting poo poo on instead.

Spectacular Spider-Man did that pretty well, too. He's his normal, quippy self in all their previous fights. But when Spidey fights the Sinister Six in in his symbiote suit, he doesn't say a word. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dPBkEec-88 Which Doc Ock picks up on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kPiNzicKqk&t=42s It was a good show.

I love how in those last two panels, the ultratight zoom on Norman and Parker makes the speech bubbles seem tiny, implying they're almost whispering - even though the lettering is the same size as everywhere else. It's such a good page.

And you're all wrong: the most bad-rear end Spider-Man moment is him realizing he shouldn't have been able to save the world. All the hero's are in a trance and dreaming that they saved the Earth from something crashing into it and we see Spider-Man's dream where he's like "I did it! I did it! Wait...I couldn't have done it..."

That's more of a grounded-human-being thing than a badass thing. He's incapable of believing himself to be that powerful, unlike the Reed Richards and Tony Starks of the world, and he's able to notice that fact despite the powerful wish fulfilment they're all being fed. Spider-man, the self-hating superhero.

I mean in that fantasy he stops a world destroying bullet with some webbing which is pretty hard to believe no matter what.

Yeah, but look at the other people who are stuck in the fantasy and try and come up with any sort of plausible scenario for their powerset.

I love Pete's interactions with other heroes because he doesn't understand these incredible things he has done. Guy has no self-esteem no matter how much the rest of the community respects him.

I personally preferred early Spidey because he was a huge jerk to everyone and constantly bragging. I never really liked the "self-hating nerd" Spider-man characterization. That's fine for Peter Parker, but when he has the mask on it's a whole different story.

Oh, and instead of buried in debris, he's crustied in a giant booger. Because it's a Ren and Stimpy comic.

I'm going to have to ask that everyone hold still for about 8 seconds so that we can get a quick scan the room and compare your it to the last 12 times so that we can make sure no one here is actually a skrull, any other kind of shapeshifter/method of disguise, mind controlled, body swapped with a villain/friend/rival/whatever, a clone, a doombot, a clone of a doombot, a doombot of a clone or any further combination thereof, bugged or wearing some other kind of tracking/listening devices, here under duress, or for any other reason that is not voluntary, suffering some kind of mental breakdown, contaminated with a chemical/radiological/biological vector, rigged with any kind of explosive device or other antipersonel weapons, or actually just a bunch of squirrels in power armor, Tony."
