I'm not sure what's wrong with that nyt headline. Fundamentally the story is that May was in power, hosed up real bad but still is in marginal power. Corbyn did the heavy lifting but he's still not the government going forward.

the neoliberal narrative coming out of this election will be that May lost, rather than Corbyn winning, because he's an unelectable socialist and if we'd had a strong common sense centrist as party leader labour would have won even harder now isn't it time for another leadership challenge

Papers writing about foreign political events are mostly going to focus on the party and people forming a government after and election, opposition figures are usually of little interest to people in other countries as it has little bearing on them.
