Yeah. If we could do a scan and go "Oh, you have the genes that put you at high risk for breast cancer and heart disease, let's just fix those and send you on your way" that would be the mildest form of eugenics and probably good. But you know it wouldn't work out and people would be trying to breed nearly identical supermen with all the 'best' traits and none of the currently unfashionable ones. Then we're all stuck in Gattaca.

The only time eugenics is admissible is to gas threads that have stupid derails. Post funny pictures.

Nothing like fat neckbearded socially isolated weirdos advocating unironically for eugenics. Is it the science version of suicide by cop?

Eugenics was considered good science once upon a time and it cut across the political spectrum. George Bernard Shaw, the arch-socialist, was an ardent advocate, for instance, because he believed eugenics could help to "uplift" the poor. William Beveridge was giving a pro-eugenics lecture to the British Eugenics Society in London on the same night the Beveridge report (credited with laying the foundations for the British welfare state) was debated in parliament. William Jennings Bryan's opposition to the theory of evolution was founded on his opposition to eugenics - which was often justified by reference to Darwin's theory - almost as much as his religious fundamentalism. Then along came the Nazis who showed what the logical conclusion of eugenics as policy would be (industrialised mass murder) and people wised up.

That's just poorly-applied eugenics.

It's pretty clear cut: narrow eugenics (such as genetic screening for highly deterministic gene traits that cause medical conditions): good Social/cultural eugenics (phenotypic traits): bad e: random photo El Mero Mero has a new favorite as of 00:12 on Jun 10, 2017 |

Memories! I remember my Canadian wedding at the tender age of 10. We found the most annoyed looking cat and beat it to death at the reception, as is tradition. Ah, the memories...

I have this book. The photos are from June 8, 1984. The caption for the cover is this: quote:I think I made a picture in a town south of Ottawa. A little girl named Angela was getting ready to go to her first communion. She was wearing a beautiful white dress, almost like a wedding gown. She was so cute, such a doll. Her brother, Trevor, was about to go play in a baseball game, but I asked them if I could take their picture. Trevor handed Angela his baseball bat so that he could get the family cat, Dot, into the picture. I'm also a fan of this one:
