I don't know anything about my hero academia, I just object to how anime fans use the term "fanservice" to mean "really creepy sexual content" instead of what it actually means.

from what I got out of it its pretty much lacking any really outstanding creepy sexual content, its got one annoying little poo poo character who is a pervy creeper but he is routinely dunked on and treated like poo poo in a goofy Johnny Bravo sorta way.

I dunno I got a pretty low tolerance for creepy anime poo poo and it didn't bother me but maybe bravest has the most refined anime pussy sensors.

BOTL is a garbage idiot troll, just put him on ignore.

MHA has some questionable costume designs, but the female characters are way better represented than in most series where they're just damsels in distress. I've not kept up with it for the last twelve or so chapters though, so maybe it's taken an insidious turn these last few months.

There are a couple whose costumes are very much sexualized. Like the girl who can make any material she knows the chemical components too. But like I said Western Comics do this too. So it's a weird line to draw.

Yao is the biggest offender, everyone else is kinda on the same level as any other young adult media with fit teenagers wearing tight clothing. Overall it doesn't play hard into that anyway, there's little fanservice and the most fanservicey characters are of-age. It's worth talking about it as much as fanservice in shonen is worth talking about, but the poo poo poster (not a shitposter) is just being inflammatory.

I know you're trying to say that Silver Age comics are bad, but you've inadvertently stumbled onto the basic truth of the genre: superhero comics are bad. Silver Age comics are the unquestioned peak of the genre, and even they were compromised by hackery and chauvinism.

This is a pretty great thread for discussing manga written with actual thought and effort by authors actually looking to create something with meaning. It's very cool to see some pathetic internet dickslap fight over absolutely nothing.

Out of some of the recommendations that have been posted lately:

- To you the immortal is just stunningly beautiful. It may not be quite as interesting lately what with Fushi becoming more human, but even now the full cast are really sweet and likeable.
- Hittoribochi no oo seikatsu is sooooo cute. It's really well written though, as someone who with social anxiety issues I can really empathise with the character, even if she is exxagerated for cuteness.
- Mitsuboshi colors by the same author is even cuter, with less of a goal or purpose, but that's its charm after all, just some adorable mischievous little girls having adventures. I do like how they're not typecast into typical girly characters, and how they're all varying levels of feminine (if that's the right way to describe it).
- Kumo desu ga, nana ka? shouldn't be so good but it really is. The premise on paper is so overdone and trite but for some reason through the writing, art and setting the end result is really good. Actually manages to have a real sense of tension too even though you know the main character will always make it in the end.
- Otouto no otto was very short, but very succint and to the point. Really did a great job of covering an serious issue which I imagine is even more important for Japanese audiences.
- Boku dake ga inai machi is incredible, so gripping and emotional. Once again, not a terribly original concept, but executed so well that it manages to still be extremely interesting.
- I forget if Saiki kusuo was mentioned here, but I love it. So dumb but so so funny. Like real cheesy comedy most of the time but it always makes me laugh.

Hope you enjoyed my oh so very deep reviews. Just mostly wanted to thank the respective posters for their recommendations really.

Kumika no Mikaku - Slice of life, seinen, comedy, cooking, supernatural, drama

This is a super cute, funny slice of life series about a small group of office workers who are comprised of three humans and two space aliens(though "alien" is considered a slur in this story, and the term "offworlder" is used instead). At some point before the story started, offworlders from many different worlds came to earth and began living and working among us normally. The two in this office are Eiria, who is literally just a pretty lady Xenomorph, and Kumika, from a species that gets all her nutrition from breathing in microbes and other airborne particles, converting them into nutrients. Kumika thus does not need to eat. One day, she gets sick and has to eat some food to get better, and is opened up to the world of delicious food, and the adventures of eating begin from there. It's a really adorable series, and might even have some romance at some point later, or might not. She's also got some interesting ears. Just an all-around charming series, though there's only a handful of chapters so far.

I believe I or someone else has recommended Otoyomegatari in this thread before, or Young Bride's Story as it's known in English, but it's quite a fantastic work set during the age of the Silk Road in Turkish central Asia in the late 1800's. The artwork is stunning and the stories it tells are generally wonderful.

this latest translated chapter is a good spoiler-free chapter to take a look at and get a bit of a taste of the series: http://kissmanga.com/Manga/Otoyomegatari/Vol-010-Ch-064--Ana?id=373482

It mostly follows a young man who marries a woman from an outside tribe and their life, but also splits off to other characters and stories which are great.

Those poor souls, not knowing the joy of Otoyomegatari.

Anyways, Silver Spoon is back off of hiatus! Stuff's happening! It's still good!

Thumbnailed for those who want to avoid very minor spoilers!

In case you've not heard of it, I actually thought I recommended it early on but apparently never did, so let's fix that!

Silver Spoon(Gin no Saji), by the author of Fullmetal Alchemist - slice of life, romance, drama, farming, cooking, comedy

Silver Spoon follows Hachiken, a smart city kid who signs up to go to an agricultural school in Japan rather than one in the city. He abruptly finds life on a farming school is staggeringly different from regular schools. There is dramatic character growth over the series as well as significant time progression, relationships, and more. It's a wonderful series that is genuinely funny, genuinely heartbreaking at times, has a decent amount of romance, and since Hiromu Arakawa grew up on a farm and has done quite a lot of further research for more modern farm tech and stuff, is very accurate to agricultural stuff today. The characters are fun, the humor's great, the food looks loving delicious, and the series isn't afraid to backhand you with little warning. Another top shelf series by the Fullmetal Alchemist author.

Silver Spoon has just been licensed by Yen Press a little over a week ago, to begin being released in 2018 at some point.

edit:

Alongside Silver Spoon, another series was licensed that I NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS would have thought would get licensed, Oh, My Sweet Alien!(Yome ga Kore na Monde). It's a series about a man who marries an alien lady who wears a human suit and has a kid with her. It's incredibly charming, funny, and adorable. There's all sorts of intergalactic shenanigans but also plenty of daily life stuff. Has boobs and stuff in it, forewarning.

Unfortunately, shortly after finishing this series, the author died suddenly, his family said from a stress-induced heart attack. It's a god drat shame, because they had a real neat take on sci-fi slice of life stories, and a distinct art style.

Light novels are just books,, but every like 4 or 5 chapters there's a picture, so if you like reading words, that's them. I know Haruhi and Spice and Wolf have long Light Novel series getting/have gotten translated.

I'm annoyed that we won't get the Kino's Journey Light Novels here after the Tokyopop translation gently caress up. Which for those that don't know, they switched around some chapters and used gender pronouns in a way which revealed some spoilers. The Original author got wind of it and pulled support of the Light Novels from Tokyopop.
