I was so tempted to post that video with Ms. Singh, because I know BPS at least is the exact type of person who would leave a comment like she was responding to. In particular, getting one or two promotions during mandatory military service is the default and not some special mark of honor for his brother unless he was in the army during the 70s or something like that. Another point is that Germany did not have (past tense, because both have been abolished for a few years already) a choice between mandatory military service and civil service per se. You had to do mandatory military service and civil service was only open to you if you were a conscietous objector. Now, this has been gamed by a lot of people. But unless that Kraut & Tea dude is a bigtime anti-military, styling his civil service as a choice reeks is pretty hypocritical for a guy that rants about service vs selfishness.

One of my teachers was in the military in the 70s and along with his crazy stories about being stationed in Korea he had crazy stories about people who joined the military instead of serve some sentence oh ho boy did that not straighten them out
