Screenshot of it incase Mr Syms decides to take that tweet down.

I'm watching the Andrew Marr Show & am really admiring Michael Fallon desperately trying to avoid admitting that the DUP have been supported by terrorists groups by going "oh, they have been a part of the democratic process", as if Sinn Fein aren't.

You have to love the messaging that the guy who gets the loving Gandhi Foundation International Peace Award for working towards peace in Northern Ireland is a terrorist sympathizer.

I assume the correct approach would be to fully invade like Iraq and spend the last 20 years with car bombs.

I mean wasn't labour pretty adamant in this election that a labour minority relying on confidence from minority parties would explicitly be a labour government and not a coalition?

Well yes confidence and supply isn't a coalition but I thought the whole point of this DUP lark was that the tories DID want a coalition so they could actually do things. A minority tory government is a substantially weaker position.

I don't imagine they want it but nobody else is going to give them one and they're going to be even more of a shambles without one.

There's only one unnamed "senior source" saying they want a formal coalition and pretty much everything else is pointing to them wanting a confidence agreement, including the statement they accidentally released before the deal was finalised

It's probably for the best. He's always been a figurehead who's good at hiding and soaking up anger from the public. If he got replaced it might soften the attitudes of the public or NHS staff when in reality his replacement would be exactly the same. Better he stays in place so nobody is under any illusions that this government is changing tack.

Hey, speaking of which, did he ever come out and comment on the ransomware that hit all the NHS systems? Obviously, he was hiding while it was an ongoing concern, but I don't remember hearing anything from him even after that one guy found the killswitch.

Comedy option: if Stormont remains collapsed and direct rule is re-imposed on Northern Ireland, Corbyn should immediately propose to legalise same-sex marriage, just to watch the Tories totally gently caress their reputation by voting it down.

Not once. They pushed out Amber Rudd to tank the damage from it, which is pretty much the defining political tactic of May's government.

Hunt has been in hiding the whole election period, which is probably the one decision they made that was sensible.

Technically its not a coalition.
A coalitiion is BOTH sides wanting to work with the other.
The Tories definitely dont want to work with the DUP.

Direct Rule happens by orders in council with the secretary of state introducing them, I'm pretty sure there's no right of initiative for parliament to introduce NI specific legislation on opposition days

Voting registration question that I'd be grateful if anyone could answer. Asking for "a friend" of course.

It seems pretty clear that to register to vote as an overseas voter, you have to have been registered to vote at any point in the past 15 years.

Does anyone know how long and under what circumstances a British citizen must be in the UK in order to register to vote? For Commonwealth citizens if you have leave to remain, you can register to vote, it's pretty clear. No such black and white details for British citizens.

Could a British citizen (who has never lived in the UK) thus register to vote while on a business trip or holiday in the UK, and then be eligible to vote for the next 15 years?

I mean the government isn't actually anything yet, right? The Tories are still trying to reach a deal and realizing that terrorists are actually pretty good at negotiating.

I wonder if Trumps new reluctance about a state visit is because someone on Fox news mentioned there was strong opposition to seeing Orangemen in government.
