What actually happens if Corbyn manages to get an amendment into the Queen's Speech for Full Communism Sometime This Parliament? Is there some mechanism to force things in the speech to actually go to a vote, or would it be a purely symbolic thing that's then ignored as the government does what it wants?

Looks like the hardline assholes have come up with their media narrative now: elections produce only binary states of Winning and Losing, and the sole determining criterion is seat numbers; the party with most seats Wins and everyone else Loses. If anyone says 'Win' or 'Lose' in any context, this is what they are referring to. Therefore Jeremy Corbyn has Lost and he must resign now because he is a Loser:

The Opposition always tries to amend the Queens speech, previous convention was that if the speech was amended it would be considered a loss of confidence (usually the opposition would specifically try to amend the speech to say the house had no confidence in the government) - though the Fixed Term Parliament Act has now defined precisely what no confidence means so you'd have to follow the wording outlined in it rather than secure a simple amendment on one issue.

It's a test and if a single amendment passes May will absolutely be expected to resign

But if it passes May has technically formed a government, but is also committed to the amendment (for example, tuition fees). Could they then just form the government and ignore the amendment since they're the government?

If an amendment passes she has been defeated in her Queens Speech. Its not a formal no confidence so the government doesn't collapse by law, but convention in this matter would be that she is absolutely 100% hosed and the pressure on her to tender her resignation would be overwhelming.

Tory rebels tried to outflank Cameron back in 2015 by threatening to vote with labour on amendment to protect the NHS from the effects of TTIP and, recognizing a defeat in amendment would gently caress him, he caved in and agreed to the commitment without it being voted on - cause of the act of losing a vote would kill him.

The only times previous amendments ever passed they where explicitly about confidence (and sank those governments). The FTP kind of fucks with convention in this regards but a Queens speech defeat would be historic and previously has always meant the end of a government.

After the Queens speech what the government has to get through the house is usually just:

quote:

We, Your Majesty's most dutiful and loyal subjects, the Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament assembled, beg leave to offer our humble thanks to Your Majesty for the Gracious Speech which Your Majesty has addressed to both Houses of Parliament.

If somehow that gets amended to gently caress with what Queenie said (what the government told her to say) it wouldn't create any statutory requirements or bind the house but a failure to pass the above unamended would kill a government

Complete farce to start with where they ignored their own protocols. Then went full OT demanding all poultry and waterfowl birds to be housed across England and Wales (Scotland and NI sort of ignored it) even though their was no evidence that it makes any difference, while still allowing the bird sanctuaries to stay fully open to the public. Also didn't stop other areas for possible transmission e.g. Pigeon racing - when the first block of infections in December and January was likely caused by wild Pigeons migrating. Then when they finally move the full blocks off they impose these hot spots zones of no movement - but these hot spots were complete made up and made no sense what so ever e.g. known large wild bird lakes missed yet small bodies of water marked as being a hot spot. Those hot spots meant chicken farms were hosed for another 2 months if they just happened to be within 10km's of one.

They simply abandoned their own rules and started to make it up instead. I know from speaking to vets that DEFRA has very little good staff in it anymore, but even so the whole thing smacked of someone in charge not having a clue what to do - which given there were set protocols established is very odd.
