What actually happens if Corbyn manages to get an amendment into the Queen's Speech for Full Communism Sometime This Parliament? Is there some mechanism to force things in the speech to actually go to a vote, or would it be a purely symbolic thing that's then ignored as the government does what it wants?

Looks like the hardline assholes have come up with their media narrative now: elections produce only binary states of Winning and Losing, and the sole determining criterion is seat numbers; the party with most seats Wins and everyone else Loses. Its not a formal no confidence so the government doesn't collapse by law, but convention in this matter would be that she is absolutely 100% hosed and the pressure on her to tender her resignation would be overwhelming. Tory rebels tried to outflank Cameron back in 2015 by threatening to vote with labour on amendment to protect the NHS from the effects of TTIP and, recognizing a defeat in amendment would gently caress him, he caved in and agreed to the commitment without it being voted on - cause of the act of losing a vote would kill him. The only times previous amendments ever passed they where explicitly about confidence (and sank those governments). The FTP kind of fucks with convention in this regards but a Queens speech defeat would be historic and previously has always meant the end of a government.

After the Queens speech what the government has to get through the house is usually just:quote:We, Your Majesty's most dutiful and loyal subjects, the Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament assembled, beg leave to offer our humble thanks to Your Majesty for the Gracious Speech which Your Majesty has addressed to both Houses of Parliament. If somehow that gets amended to gently caress with what Queenie said (what the government told her to say) it wouldn't create any statutory requirements or bind the house but a failure to pass the above unamended would kill a government
