The story is the same from the Tories and the Labour right. Corbyn is irrelevant, it was May and her disastrous manifesto wot lost it. Of course this theory ignores the fact that she got 43% of the vote, meaning the Tory party was actually extremely popular, and she just suffered because Corbyn's Labour is also extremely popular.

If they really think that, then run the election again and put your best manifesto forward! I'm sure everyone will just zoom back towards you. Do it. No, really. Do it.

Also if you look at the actual polling people were voting for Labour because they liked the policies it was presenting, not just to stop May. Heck, it's pretty clear at this point that young people do not turn out en-masse to vote for the lesser of two evils.

As much as it's nice to see a (hopefully, please don't gently caress it all up) reignited Labour party with someone who genuinely connects with people heading it up, I still have a pretty negative outlook on the next few years. And obviously all the grifters who 'delivered' us Brexit will remain rich as gently caress and unaffected.

If people hated her manifesto and were turned off voting (or even turned towards Labour) she would not have got 43% of the vote. This election was a straight up fight between someone extremely popular with the old and someone extremely popular with the young.

Perhaps the worst take from all of this is " Why couldn't all of you young people just think about the country's future rather than only about yourselves, you've ruined our chances of Brexit success". There isn't an large enough to respond to that with.

Frankly it all comes down to tomorrow. If they get the Queen's speech passed then its five years of waiting or until whoever stabs may in the back and can maybe turn a Tory leadership struggle into another GE. Or watch as the Tory DUP train falls apart.

I really have no belief at all that May isn't going to form the next government. But another GE in six months could be a pretty foregone conclusion for Labour, providing they can keep up the power they have now and everyone keeps on being fairly pissed off at May. The whole country has turned on her in the last week, strong and stable is 100% hosed so it my depend on what their next idea is.

From the study:quote:A: Your current yearly income is $50,000; others earn $25,000. And from the conclusion: quote:In our survey, half of the respondents said they would prefer a world in which they have 50 percent less real So yeah it's all about being better off than others.

An non-shitpost for once Why doesn't the government hold the polls on a Saturday instead of a weekday when more people at home from home and could actually vote without having to rush? Why doesn't the government have polling over a two day period so it can gather more votes?

I had an interesting chat with Clive today and he is officially a Good Lad. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a member of this thread with his political views - he's all over the 'Thatcherite / Reagonomics has ended, moving the Overton window to the left etc.' view of the world. Also very aware of the fact that the reasons for the result were complex and partly due to supporters of other parties e.g. Greens and LibDems lending him their votes to support a progressive cause, which he was very grateful for. He also gave a ringing endorsement to Corbyn's leadership and said everyone in the party should be backing him as the next Prime Minister "no ifs, no buts". Really passionate and unequivocal stuff, so I can't imagine him doing a hostile bid for leadership at this stage. Let's just hope Corbyn is able to do a better job of interacting with the PLP because from speaking to some others in the know, the stories of Corbyn just sitting in silence during meetings etc weren't entirely unfounded.

At that point why not ask them straight up whether they would prefer to earn less money as long as other people were worse off? Anyone who can understand the scenario they're trying to set up well enough to answer honestly will understand what the question the researchers are actually trying to ask is.
