I'm really enjoying everything about this season. Glad that Lynch is continuing to give the people what he wants rather than what they want.

I hated Dougie at first but I'm starting to fall in love with the character. There's gotta be some deeper critique Lynch is making about petty surburban life. Epsiode 6 was brilliant and had great pacing. I think this season is shaping up to be superior to the original in every way. Watch Lynch troll everyone hoping for the return of Agent Coop and he shows up only in the final two episodes of the season.

I really enjoy the Dougie scenes but I find them far more melancholy than comic. Kyle's performance does a ton of lifting there though, if it was in the hands of another actor I don't know if it would feel as weighty as it does to me.

People say Cooper is all Dougied up because he was in the lodge for a long time, but wasn't he fine until being sucked through a plug socket?

FSFunky posted:was it just me or did Janey-E keep taking the same first bite out of her sandwich? It kinda seemed like that sandwich never got smaller. I think there was a continuity error too when she was cleaning the plates. She takes Dougies empty plate and puts it on top of her plate, smashing her leftover sandwich (that was truly the most disturbing part of the episode). Then there is a cut away to Dougie, but you see her hold the plates on the side, and the sandwich was now on top of both plates. I think it's clear that the sandwich is from the Black Lodge and is really controlling everything.

Man, I wish I found the Dougie scenes "hilarious" and that they made me "laugh uncontrollably." What a magical place the world would be.

Tirranek posted:People say Cooper is all Dougied up because he was in the lodge for a long time, but wasn't he fine until being sucked through a plug socket? Yep, he was still somewhat passive but I figure 25+ years waiting around in the Black Lodge were to explain for that - you gotta learn patience and he was already a pretty patient/zen dude to begin with. He seemed to mostly be like the old Coop as he made his way out of the lodge through the glass box and then into the "space ship". It's only after he gets sucked through the plug and switches places with Dougie that he seemed to be turned blank.

Dudes need to chill with the "no true Lynch fan" stuff. It's ok to disagree about the show. Anyway, I loved the way Dougie's face lit up when he saw the picture of Jade. She's really been one of the most purely good new people we've met.

Reminder that Jade dumped a dude who clearly just had a stroke at a casino and not like, a hospital. Y'all are thinking with your dick.

Leaving him with a security person and saying "I think he had a stroke" isn't ideal but it's hugely better than anyone else has behaved. Though the cop in this last episode was helpful too, the second time.

I like the Dougie scenes but would probably be happier if they were shorter or interspersed throughout the episode so it makes them appear shorter. I did a rewatch of everything before the new stuff and I never got the feeling certain scenes felt like they were dragging to the point of annoyance like I have lately. Maybe the payoff will change how I perceive them though.

I can't believe Harry Dean Stanton is 90. I actually thought his "been smoking every loving day for 71 years" thing was a joke, like he's been smoking since was 9 or something.

Just watched episode 6. Anyone else feel like since Cooper was lost to the Black Lodge, the town lost some footing in its standoff with the evil in the woods? I can't describe it well, it feels like there's been a breach in whatever is holding the evil in the woods at bay. It feels like the town is... sicker? Chad continues to be a piece of poo poo. I gotta give props to how thoroughly he has been characterized as a dirtbag, from his appearance to his lines. Richard Horne outclasses him though, guy's like some horrific blend of Bobby Briggs and Leo Johnson. Speaking of horrifying, what the gently caress was going on with Cocaine Sorcerer? I was half expecting him to do the "I'm in your house" bit from Lost Highway. I hope Ike finds a new spike. Hang in there buddy!

I admit, when the hit and run scene was being telegraphed, at first I thought he was going to run over Stanton somehow. When the kid came running along, I was like "whew." I enjoyed Richard calling his supplier "that magic bastard" or, motherfucker, or whatever it was exactly. Also, I like that Chad looks like such a typical scruffy bearded slob. After work I'll bust out the old episode and see if either of the two guys Dougie's wife met in the park were in the black car crew. I'm more convinced that the black car crew were random car jackers now since the two guys made no mention of the explosion.

I don't understand why the Dougie scenes are so delightful to me, it's some weird movie magic. It's also how I feel about The Carnival of Souls lady, which as I understand was a big inspiration for Lynch, I think the oddly textured flowing water in the original show intro is from there.

I saw Xiu Xiu perform their Twin Peaks music live. It was loud and insane and they used the ceiling fan shot from FWWM as their background. They did not play Just You And I, which is bullshit, and they sang the lyrics to the theme song, which was interesting. The performance of Sycamore Trees was haunting. edit: At this point, I think Richard is Jerry's son.
