wocobob posted:Two questions about UK politics from an American: Yes. Labour won election before World War 2 was over (there's photos of the Potsdam Conference where one day Churchill is there, the next it's Attlee), and enacted the most radical platform this country has ever seen. Certainly more radical than the 2017 Labour Party manifesto. They nationalised coal industry, Bank of England, health care, electricity, Cable & Wireless, the railways, the canals, some road haulage, gas supply, and the steel & iron industries. They also instituted the "cradle-to-grave" welfare state. a wide-scale house-building policy, and vastly improved workers rights while cutting away bad anti-union laws. They should have gone further, but considering where we're at now? Amazing. forkboy84 fucked around with this message at 22:29 on Jun 12, 2017 |

Honestly one of my favourite Corbyn moments is when after an appalling week that saw his entire party, the media, and the Tories demanding he resign, he was asked how he dealt with the incredible pressure he was under. And he said: Jeremy Corbyn posted:There’s no pressure on me. None whatsoever. The real pressure, – real pressure –, is when you don’t have enough money to feed your kids, when you don’t have a roof over your head, when you are wondering if you are going to be cared for. Too good for this world.

It's worth listening the world this weekend from Sunday on the realities of minority government. Two whips talk about backbenchers queing up outside their office's demanding pork barrel spending for their constituency and the stress of stuff like making sure you there weren't too many ministers away on trip's at the same for key votes actually killing people. There will be another election within the year, maaaaaaybe 2 max.

I did find a few articles like this, but they don't tend to be very well cited/sourced so I can't judge how accurate they are. Is this something anyone can expand on? Bit late, but I'll post this again because I think it's an excellent summary. https://benjaminstudebaker.com/2017/06/06/britain-for-the-love-of-god-please-stop-theresa-may/
