I don't really know what you mean by 5-star player but IMO he's probably a top line center on a lot of teams. It's really hard to judge exactly how good he is given the garbage team he's played for for a few years but he still produces a lot.

Colorado is going to get fleeced in whatever trade they make.

Colorado. He's quite good and on a decent team maybe tops out as a 30/40 guy. He's definitely better than his 18 goals last year suggest.

I dunno about that. I bet he'll land somewhere for 5-6 million and he's probably worth that if he can put up the 50-60 points I'd expect him to.

Yes but it's going to take 6 years and a NMC to sign him and he's only going to be that good for 3.

I think the Rangers aren't that stupid and it will more likely be someone like the Senators or Avs or Hurricanes.

I would have listed the Devils there too, but, welp

If they could now move Staal somehow...

I don't even know what they'd do with the D but even if they went nuts and did something like

McDonagh-Shattenkirk
Skjei-Smith
Graves-Bereglazov

It'd be better than last year even with two rookies on the 3rd pairing!

i really like that top 4, and i like the d even more if smith gets pushed down and we acquire someone really good like barrie or vatanen or whoever. i'd be happy to pencil in whichever one of graves/bereglazov/pionk distinguishes himself best in camp for the final spot. but realistically, both staal and holden are probably back so there's your bottom pair. or second pair.

I think Smith is perfectly good as a 2nd pair guy next to Skjei. I don't think I'd be wanting to pay him $4 mill or so per year to be a 3rd pair guy.

The Smith-Skjei pairing was excellent in the playoffs aside from the penalties and I'd like to see them kept together.

The Devils are just one Patrick Kane away from a cup, I tells ya!

Unless this were some weird wheel and deal thing involving Vegas, if they trade Hischier/Patrick AND other players for Kane, it would be enough to bury my Devils jersey in the yard. Luckily, it's Twitter.

i mean yes but at the same time if we were to sign shattenkirk and also somehow swing a trade for someone like vatanen or barrie or somebody, smith would be the most obvious third pairing guy out of the 3 RHD

Do you think the Devils are Patrick/Hischier away from competing or something? This is a weird post. Kane is worth far more than the 1st overall this year?

Pornographic Memory

patrick kane has 6 years left on literally the biggest cap hit in the league so you also have to factor in the opportunity cost of signing kane vs the players you could acquire with the difference in cap space between kane and an 18 year old on an elc who will become an rfa under team control

Remember when Girardi was an All-Star?

5 years ago already. Definitely feels like it for him though. It wasn't really until the cup finals in 2014 where I noticed his speed was an issue. I don't feel bad though, 11 seasons is a great run, and he made bank with that contract after the Rangers got to the finals.

I don't really know how buyouts work. Does he still get paid the full value of that contract? Or is it a case where he gets 75% of it but all at once or something similar to that?

They were a -61 goal differential team last season. I think they should be rebuilding instead of further burrowing themselves into playoff purgatory.

he gets 2/3 the remaining contract salary value (any signing bonuses are still full value), spread out over double the contracts remaining length

There are some real-reporters-but-not-trade breakers on twitter saying that Montreal is trying to do something involving an offer of Galchenyuk and a first. One of the reports said they were targeting Drouin, another said they were targeting RNH+. Making the Drouin trade work would probably be pretty solid for the Habs, but I'd still like it, because I am down with every chaos trade.

I had to look it up too since honestly I couldn't remember either. For 26+ year old players it's 2/3 the remaining salary, spread out evenly over twice the remaining contract length.
