But the House is even stupider than the Senate?

The GOP gets to gently caress over the Iran deal and move us firmly back into "perpetual middle eastern war", so it was a pretty good deal for them IMO.

Eh, that was just the moment that we stopped being able to pretend that there was still a discussion happening. The debate has probably been dead for at least a few decades thanks to right-wing media. There's just no way to fight a completely decentralized propaganda system that still manages to insist in unison that the smallest compromise is the first step to mass gun confiscations.

IDK if thats me but my 'this shooting is bad for democracy' is based on a) political violence tends to escalate and b) commonplace political violence is bad for many reasons, mostly that it leaves lots of people dead, also it discourages people from participating in the democratic process and also that it seems to lead to lovely legislative responses.
that's basically all and I dont have specific studies or analyses to back any of those points up, it's just my impression.

trump being president is bad for america but not bad for american democracy because american democracy contains the tools to deal with him (wait 3 years then vote him out).

This was heavily financed by the gun industry, as was the lobbying it took.

I was horrified by that shooting and the reactions to it that I haven't been able to care about the ones that have happened since.

But those countries also don't have the ridiculous gun fetishization and culture that America does, so it's a little different

Three! partisan responses(?):

Republicans: We should have had guns on the baseball field so we could have a Wild West shootout with the guy. We were totally defenseless other than our armed guards.
Democrats: Reasonable gun control would have kept guns out of the hands of a repeat offender with a recorded violent history. You would then not need guns to play baseball.
Third option: Incorporate guns into official baseball rules.

I am a little biased, and I did also write all of these, but I think it's clear which one is more reasonable.

If baseball player had gun this wouldn't have happened:

Here's a thing:

quote:

The special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russia’s role in the 2016 election is interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice, officials said.

The move by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III to investigate Trump’s own conduct marks a major turning point in the nearly year-old FBI investigation, which until recently focused on Russian meddling during the presidential campaign and on whether there was any coordination between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. Investigators have also been looking for any evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates, officials said.
