Hey, The Roll Player Expansion kickstarter is in it's last day and I wanted to ask the thread's opinions on it and the full game? If it worth getting, is the main game good enough to warrant the two shipment option? I think this was talked about before, but I can't seem to find it in the thread.

It's quite good. I've found it a touch long, but it's a pretty interesting drafting game.

In the midst of their latest Kickstarter, Scale75 got caught stealing concept art. Looks like it's not the first time they've done it, either.

To be fair, he's probably a better choice for the project than the literal extreme-fetish artist I guess Sanguine has a really good contract with, but that's damning with faint praise. EDIT: I just noticed his author icon is of his loving stolen porn-star character, too. Jesus Christ

This game Clink is interesting. All resolution is done using coins, and characters are continually having flashbacks to develop their back stories. It's pretty cheap, so it might be worth it. Also, it has a draft available to see its mechanics.

Evil Mastermind posted:There's a Free RPG Day one. It only deals with normal Core Earthers in New York on day one of the invasion (I guess they didn't want to throw a ton of concepts around for a demo) and doesn't use the cards (which is understandable). I have friends that play the old edition and I was never really into it because I have a real hard time getting into games I can't get the books for. The fact it comes with EVERYTHING plus every single one of the old books in PDF was enough to get me to pull the trigger. If they dont switch to the new stuff, I have all the old stuff. If they switch to the new stuff, all the old stuff is full of lore. It's a win/ win

I already have both the original core and revised editions, as well as all the cosmbooks so I was set on that front. Plus all the PDFs from a past Bundle of Holding. I have an odd relationship with Torg.

Spiderdrake posted:Don't they just straight up have unlicensed Geralts and Ciris in their catalogue? While the hobby is usually fairly tolerant of generic brand big studio characters, that's often because people aren't terribly concerned about a big multi-million dollar studio getting ripped off. They can take care of themselves. But when it's a private artist having their art stolen, 1) a lot more people are likely to care, and 2) the artist is much more likely to take notice and try to do something about it. This has led to Scale75 having to remove the specific models from their store, people demanding refunds from them (both from not getting the models they wanted and from anger on the artist's behalf), and other artists discovering that Scale75 ripped them off.

But, like, what's special about Torg? Exploding dice and the mix of settings isn't special. I already have a few Savage Worlds things lying around. What's great about Torg?

I haven't looked at the KS due to EM's posts about it, but they played it on One-Shot and it sounds like a fuckin mess from top to bottom. It seems almost impossible to play in an online setting and you have to consult charts to see what the numbers on your dice actually mean (in that you're not getting a result, but another fuckin number that determines your result). The players made the game entertaining but playing it sounds like an unfun nightmare.

As I've said many times in the past, as much as I hate the mechanics Torg is still one of my favorite RPG settings of all time. I love multiversal stuff, and the whole idea of "earth is invaded by different alternate realities" is really fun and the different invaders are all pretty interesting (at least as long as you don't get bogged down in the 90's setting cruft). And while the core system isn't as bad as it used to be, I still wish they'd ditch the lookup table. It seems like they're only keeping it because "that's what the old system used." e: I mean, hell, I'm still running the demo tomorrow for Free RPG Day. homullus posted:But, like, what's special about Torg? Exploding dice and the mix of settings isn't special. I already have a few Savage Worlds things lying around. What's great about Torg? for a real answer, like said the setting is the main draw. It's like RIFTS done way stronger. There's hardfast rules in every universe that shape the characters around them but at the same time the characters are big drat heroes who flounce around breakin the rules/breakin the law. The worlds have a very strong, cohesive, flavor and their people follow the rules well enough to make cyber-papal state stuff feel like a genuinely major shift from baseline stuff while still feeling part of the same hosed up universe. The system is...eh...Not terrible and the changes are positive changes but...yea there's a lot of 90's clunk in there that can be annoying. If you like the whole mixed nuts possibilities of Savage Worlds you may like this.
