I believe some people is attracted to a futuristic setting for their novels because they are free from constrains. But thats not science-fiction. Is more like epic fantasy. Science-fiction is about "what if" scenarios, where you invent a new technology or concept and write stories that explore what are the consequences of that "what if". Theres nothing bad with epic fantasy with a futuristic setting, epic fantasy is awesome. Science-fiction is generally bad, bland, poorly written and made by old people that hate change. I love science fiction,... I hate science fiction but I also love it.

Lodin posted:Both Zelda and Rocky live in Sweden but the Norwegian translations most of the time get translated with local places and people. It gets very stupid at times when they hang out in say Gamla Stan in Stockholm, a very distinct area and they then translate it to someplace in Oslo. There was one Zelda strip with a prominent ad for beer placed on a bus shelter. Very jarring, considering those are illegal in Norway. Or when they visit a Max hamburger joint (swedish chain with only four locations in Norway) on their way from Oslo to Kongsvinger when none of the four locations in Norway are along that route. Or when they pretended that a Swedish midsummer celebration was somehow a Norwegian Constitution Day. Samurai Sanders posted:What the hell? Is Sweden an alien place to Norwegians that they need a Phoenix Wright style cultural translation or something? Sort of, it is like if they refer to an area in Stockholm known for something (for example Södermalm, where many hipsters are found), then they substitute an equivalent area in Oslo (Grünerløkka in this case, because it is supposed to be the most hipster-dense area in Oslo). Or substituting a reference to actors or singers unknown outside Sweden with local equivalents. Kopijeger fucked around with this message at 15:28 on Jun 15, 2017 |

Samurai Sanders posted:So even though Google Maps says you can take a train between Oslo and Stockholm in like five hours no one does it? The supposed train is actually a trap, it's a criminal offence for anyone in Sweden or Norway to give any indication in words or actions that they'd rather be in Norway or Sweden.

Samurai Sanders posted:What the hell? Is Sweden an alien place to Norwegians that they need a Phoenix Wright style cultural translation or something? I'm doing the same thing with my translations. For example, the original strip didn't reference the Lindbergh case but a famous Norwegian murder case where there's also a lot of unanswered questions.

It may come in the form of ‘performance art’ where Trump becomes Julius Caesar and is stabbed to death. I'm skeptical that more civilians have been killed by guns in America since 1968 than the entire soldier death toll of the Civil War plus US soldier deaths in WWII. edit: even if "U.S." is Fish's way of not counting the Confederates, despite the fact that we never formally recognized their secession
