nick wiger is one of the most relatable people in podcasting, imo. well, him and sean clements when he starts to let the comedy facade slip and reveal how crazy he is.

I really love both of them.

Sean may have been his most honest self ever when he revealed that he had a framed bug collection on Doughboys. I also immediately switched from thinking it was kind of weird to wanting to start my own bug collection.

Sean teasing himself over being well-known as a Mountain Goats fan due to a fairly obscure podcast interview he gave years ago was also kind of insane in retrospect. They are both celebrities to a small but attentive audience, which must bring with it all the weird parts of fan interaction without the massive payday.

The fact that Nick and Sean are both married despite their personality quirks is really sweet. However, I'm also very nervous for either of them if something bad happens. It seems like both of them lean on their spouses quite a bit emotionally, and Nick even leans on Natalie physically when his back spasms come back.

Sean picking "Iced Coffee" as his topic for Gabrus' podcast to intentionally highlight how dull he is was fun.

I just want to give a shout out to that podcast: 'Don't Get Me Started' and it is utterly fascinating how many comedians are bonkers.

The premise is they get people to "not talk about what you do, but what you love", where Sean talked about The Mountain Goats. If you've never heard the podcast and like the kind of guests on Earwolf/Feral Audio you have to listen to the episode with Joe Wengert and how he collects music. I know I throw around the word literally insane a lot, but he is literally insane.

The dedication to only purchasing albums in CD format is impressive, but ~1400 albums over two decades doesn't seem that crazy to me.

Encoding with a normal bit rate, his entire library is likely under 200GB.

I've been collecting since around 2004, and I only have 700 albums in my iTunes library. There is a massive backlog of albums that were released before I started seriously listening to music. Even within a single small music scene, a comprehensive collection could exceed 100GB. There is even a moderately famous list of the "1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die". This list excludes film soundtracks, music compilations, non-Western music, and the entirety of Western music before Frank Sinatra.

Recorded music is virtually endless.

When I'm not listening to anything in particular, I'll resume a full alphabetical order relisten of my library in order to clean things up. There is a ton of metadata that has to be checked for accuracy. If I don't own an artist's full discography, I will seek out any missing albums/EPs and determine if recent additions deserve a spot in the library. During each full relisten, I'll also prune old artists/albums that I no longer enjoy and clean up album artwork.

It's a huge time investment in order to reach a wide yet fundamentally shallow understanding of modern music history.

Oh wait, am I a crazy person?

Ha, Will's latent computer obsession, getting out of programming but still checking in on it every so often, is great to me. He apologies 90% of time, saying he's sorry to be talking about something so dumb. It's a really endearing podcast. I don't listen every week, but I think it's of the more compelling shows. But my favorites are also the ones where they break the form, and just have Mantzoukas or Walsh just nerd out about the start of UCB.

Haha EXACTLY! Like, I get the conceit of the podcast, but it is kinda universal to comedy podcasts, they all seem embarrassed to really dig in to it. But who the hell else is listening to this stuff besides comedy nerds? I mean, I read the UCB manual just for the fun of it, I have no intention of ever performing.

Just wanna say I started listening/binging recently and this show is really great. I love the level of detail in Wiger's openers and impassioned closing judgements, the two hosts have a great casual rapport, it's charming to have them talk earnestly about chain restaurants while still acknowledging it's a dumb concept, and as an Australian this is making me frustrated I can't access most of these food places.

Up to Hard Rock Cafe at the moment, the last few eps have had some great what the gently caress moments like Spoon Man being molested by dolphins and Wiger considering tickle porn. Good stuff

If it helps, they eventually start reviewing restaurants where the "chain" moniker is a bit of a stretch and most of the locations are SoCal/LA, so even a lot of us Yanks have no point of reference.
