Of course, he's phenomenal. Didn't stop people labeling Thornton and Datsyuk in the same way and that crap followed them for years and had a pretty negative impact on their careers through (largely) no fault of their own. Ditto Ovie, and now apparently the Caps are seriously considering moving him despite him being arguably the 2nd best player of his generation.

Under a $75 mil salary cap, Hawks would only need to trade Kruger to get under. That's lame.

Yeah but why would he? He's got 4 more years to run at $3.7M. He's not getting that again. Hell, he may never play again.

Maybe they offered him a front office job?

Or hired a crooked doctor to clear him for the buyout. Dr. Creepy Rory, MD.

I got so accustomed to the Flyers under Holmgren doing things on trade deadline day and such that I keep expecting them to make a move for the sake of making a move

Holmgren: "We aren't going to do the thing"
Me: "Good, we need to build up the prospect pool"
*Holmgren does the thing*
Me: O poo poo

Hextall: "We aren't going to do the thing"

I feel bad for Despres. I thought he was awesome when he played for the Penguins, and you never want to someone as young as he is (or anyone else) drop out of the league because of a concussion.

It's a shame.

Great young forwards going for solid defensemen.

Meanwhile, Chris Tanev and his great contract remain where they are

Unless Benning can get a top prospect or a top 5 pick, what's the point of moving Tanev now? I get that he'll likely be of little use if and when this team is ever competitive again, but he won't evaporate if he's not moved before July 1st. His NTC is 8 teams I believe, and he'll still be a hot commodity at the deadline this year and next year. There's no reason to rush into a deal unless it makes perfect sense to the team. I kinda like Benning's stance on Tanev at the moment.

They should assemble the "retired" rings into a MegaCup at the HHoF, instead of putting each one on its own shelf.

Then bring in the cup winning team of that year and have them take a group shot holding the MegaCup over their head.

Yeah someone did the math not long ago and said if they kept the rings it would be somewhere around 9-10 feet tall.

An entire team hauling it around the ice on their shoulders like a huge log would look amazing

Tanev is probably one of the few guys with NTCs who doesn't have Winnipeg black balled. I know this because he encouraged his brother to sign with the Jets. Or maybe he just hates his brother.

11 not counting the ring that's about to be retired. If my math is right it'll be until 2070 when the 93 Habs are retired off the Cup.
