Presumably the plan is to take Jackson at 3 and kick assets down the line to keep open a perpetual "maybe next year" window in which Ainge can't be fired and hope never dies. It's not really the worst plan I've ever heard, most fanbases would kill for that. And if you think the Warriors are unbeatable, planning for 2-3 years of 2nd-3rd round exits and good regular seasons followed by a whole new crop of high picks maturing is actually smart. But it's the nba gming equivalent of edging

If they want to build to win in 4 years, I don't think they'll be in a position to have a chance to draft a guy like Fultz again. (This is a good post to look at again in 4 years).
