Like after November, when is the next opportunity for an immediate vote of no-confidence based on legislation failing?

If you're the tories isn't this the smart strategy? The worst thing they can do now is hold a vote. Better to wait and at least try to minimize the damage and hope everyone goes back to being apathetic.

What do you even call a mode of government where the ruling party can only cling onto power by essentially closing the curtains, turning off the lights, and pretending they're not in for the next 5 years? I read about ditching the Queen's Speech and budget statements and my brain says "well there's a transparent attempt to stop your political opponents from doing their jobs specifically so you can cling onto power" but it's all too grubby and pathetic to be any kind of authoritarian coup.

Sadiq Khan has thrown his hat into the ring for 'biggest missed point' and 'biggest oval office' with his piece in the Observer. He literally blames the building standards of the 70s for the Grenfell fire and suggests all tower blocks from that period might have to be torn down. Aside from the fact that the building was loving FINE until we decided to cover it in petrol a few years ago, tearing down all old tower blocks would have the nice side effect of removing most of the remaining places for poor people to live in London. Is Khan actually planning on using this fire as an excuse to rapidly speed up the gentrification of London, by tearing down homes instead of cheaply retrofitting them with sprinklers? Because that's the impression.

How long do they get to hold everyone hostage? Until 2022, unless defections / byelections can force enough losses that they either lose a straightforward confidence vote, or the prospect of doing so intimidates them into calling a snap election. It's unlikely but theoretically possible that this government could limp on for the next five years, although I think the current public sector spending review is due in 2020, so they can't dodge a budget for too long.

Sadiq Khan is a good reminder that Labour isn't really to be trusted either.

The 1 Series is fine, I'm 185cm tall and like to sit fairly far from the pedals, and I can still fit in the seat behind mine even though it's a bit of a squeeze. BMWs are great for taller drivers because you can pull the wheel out much further than any other car I've driven. The 3 Series layout is identical but with more room. TACD posted:Train tickets for visiting my folks down south are now so expensive that they're now pretty much at parity with air travel. Air travel also saves several hours and guarantees you a seat. I can believe this. My partner and I went to the Lake District earlier in the year, and had we gone by train we would've paid £228 in rail fares for both of us. Instead we went in my car (which gets hilariously good mileage for a petrol if it's just cruising along the motorway) and it set us back about £70 in petrol.

Why are people talking about November and failed legislation? Labour can file a motion of no confidence on any Opposition Day, they don't need a specific reason to do so, and they automatically take precedence over all other government business.

They'd be absolutely hamstrung in terms of introducing legislation and it would be a huge stick for the opposition and wavering backbenchers to beat the government with, but is there any formal arrangement preventing it from happening?

I just read in a Dutch newspaper that it would have cost all of 5000 pounds more to use the fireproof insulation cladding instead of the fire hazard that was installed. Don't remember seeing it reported in the UK media or mentioned in the thread. Can anyone verify?

We're the EU's redshirt, our role is to die to underscore the severity of the calamity.
