I would very much like Gove to be made a foreign secret, it's bad for the country that they know about him. Domestic secret too. Nobody should know about Michael Gove.

A fully grown firefighter can consume a dozen Freddos on a busy lunchbreak.

That's a load of crap, if we're gonna be using them as currency I'd like a round number of Freddos in a firefighter. Possibly 100 Freddos to a firefighter, but I'm open to other ideas.

going by the £90m = 2000FFR ratio, 1FFR = 45,000 GBP, and as a Freddo is shockingly 25 whole pence on asda we can scientifically say that the current exchange rate is 180,000FFR = 1 FDO. Hope that helps in your trading.

Let's round it to 200k Freddos per firefighter, yeah? Also they should be GBF and FFR, for Great British Freddo and Firefighters, respectively.

From the Graun, feels like I should bold the whole thing:

quote:

The government’s response to the fire has been described as inadequate, and the Conservative-led local council has faced particularly intense criticism over the chaos and paralysis that characterised its response to the disaster.

Labour and the Liberal Democrats called for Nick Paget-Brown, the council leader, to stand down on Sunday as the government, in a tacit admission that the council had failed to cope, said it was drafting in civil servants to help.

Opposition councillors are angry at the way council leaders appeared to freeze when confronted by a disaster on the scale of the fire. They said they were kept in the dark and repeatedly given incorrect assurances that accommodation had been found for residents.

The council had failed to return calls from neighbouring councils offering to provide accommodation and other help, the councillors said.

Other criticisms included a failure to communicate with survivors and their families; a lack of visible staff on the ground providing advice; a failure to distribute any of the money being donated; and a failure to ensure surviving residents were allocated suitable accommodation nearby.

The Labour leader on the council, Robert Atkinson, said the leadership had lost all credibility. “They have lost control,” he said. “They seem mesmerised by the gravity of the situation.”

Atkinson called on Paget-Brown, his deputy and senior officials to stand down, saying they had “collapsed on the job”.

The council posted a notice on its website saying the town hall had closed for the weekend, after an angry protest on Friday, and that staff were working from other sites. It said it hoped to reopen the town hall on Monday.
I don't think I've seen a more incompetent and universally reviled response to a crisis/disaster as Paget-Brown and Fielding-Mellen have managed. I'd almost believe it's deliberate at this point, if I could think of a single possible benefit they'd get from it.

Sunday's are the second worst day for public engagement with the news and politics behind Saturday. People's attention goes elsewhere. The anger will spike up again when this gets reported tomorrow or when they're paying more attention again.

300 votes is well within the margin of error for humans counting thousands of bits of paper by hand. Don't be a dumb :tinfoil: idiot about this.

One recount, sure. Multiple recounts seems a lot less justifiable. Are your vote counters simultaneously so bad that they gently caress up the first recount and yet so good they arent just as likely to gently caress up a second?

Two is definitely a lot better than the mistreported seven I had originally heard though. Especially if its one per candidate which would make sense if that was the case.

I didn't realise at first that this was literally about literal dawn and thought it was some kind of elaborate metaphor about hope. Is the heatsink class consciousness?

Let's pretend it is. Shortly after the the light begins to dawn, class consciousness is still low, but due continued enlightenment the workers warm up, such that they can even survive the darkness of something something late capitalism.
