The Chappy is far from useless, and trying to say its weak because you get killed by Yamatos is potato-level stupid. :ntrabbit:

Of course they all can, the massive problem has always been that the Chapayev can't dodge anything, save a NC at max range if you're watching close enough to throw the rudder over as soon as it fires; pending good fortune with the RNG, every shell fired at you is much more likely to hit than those fired at any other t8 cruiser. The middling, without a specialised captain that doesn't go in Donkey or Moskva, damage output isn't enough to make up for how cripplingly bad it is at avoiding damage on being spotted, now that you're no longer able to lay that damage down without being spotted.

They're just weeb Myokos, Atagos and Kongos that are technically premium ships but lack the benefits of being a premium ship. There's a surprising amount of cross-over between people interested in warboats and people interested in anime so WG have been doing partnerships with some of them.

Trillhouse
Dec 31, 2000

They were part a promotional tie-in with an anime. You could grind a bunch to unlock them.

You can disable them by clicking the gear icon above the ship ribbon. Then they'll just appear as their historical counterpart without any garish anime racing stripes.

The ARP partnership has ended though, so you can't get them anymore - the home spun alternatives they sold on the Chinese server because they didn't have the rights to that anime there are now on the NA and EU servers from time to time, Eastern Dragon and Southern Dragon, both Myokos.

Instead, coming with the next patch is a new pair of weeb boats from an entirely different anime, this time the HSF Graf Spee, and the HSF Harekaze, which is a Kagero

And is apparently doing something unique unlike all the other tie-in ships, which are just copies with a different skin, in that it has 3 hulls you can choose from, each of which is radically different. The A hull is basically a Kagero, but the B hull is a discount Akizuki (complete with three 100mm dual turrets), and the C hull is apparently similar to a Benson.

Yeah, don't actually watch that, whether you can stand anime or not. The written premise made it seem initially similar to a certain series Wargaming did a collaboration with for a different game, but oh boy the summaries I saw about where it actually went. I googled it, apparently the series of power up to the next level upgrades the title ship Harekaze got were just that, the historical 127mm guns replaced with the 100mm guns, and then the 100mm guns replaced with USN 5" guns

I'd be interested in both the Harekaze and the Graf Spee if they were some sort of campaign rewards but no way am I paying for them.

The only ships I don't have that I could buy and have an interest in are the Kaga and Scharnhorst. The fact I already have a Saipan and Tirpitz is what's stopping me but if there are good deals someday I may bite.

The Scharnhorst is stupidly good and does amazingly well with a 19 point Hindenburg Captain in it. One of my top 5 ships.

Oh boy, just had a lamentable pubbie on my team who had no idea how to use the Belfast he must have just bought

Red Flag #1 He starts near a Pensacola, and asks him if he has smoke
Red Flag #2 He then races into brawling range with a New Mexico and smokes up

New Mexico just gets close enough for guaranteed detection and dev strikes him

Red Flag #3 He's complaining that he "hit the New Mexico in the bow like 50 times with IFHE and never got a citadel"

A couple people on the team try to explain to him thats not how IFHE works, but he refutes that argument by claiming it does on the EU server

And that Jingles video is apparently "full of poo poo".

Why is it that the Belfasts on the red team are never this lovely?

So I tried carriers and one thing is bugging me, if I try to ctrl click on enemy planes/ships or the minimap it doesn't seem to focus them or ping like in other ship types. Do CVs just not get to do this or is there another way?

Also, I have seen via the wiki and some youtube vids that some ships have different heal mechanics, e.g. the Hood, Warspite, and Colorado, at least all have more powerful heals - but is this shown in the game anywhere? Are you just mean to keep notes on how much you are healing per ship or am I missing where it's displayed?

CV interface is indeed incredibly awkward, and I don't think they can. Then again, I'm basically a pure solo player, so I've never heavily looked into those mechanics. I sometimes ping a map square to draw attention to that sector, and that's about it.

As for the different heals, hover over the heal consumable while in port and it will tell you both how much hp it heals per second, and how many seconds it lasts.

I'm pretty sure I saw a CV designate a target the other day, but he might have dropped into ship view to do it.

Also some heals are more powerful not because they heal more raw damage, but because they can heal a higher percentage of AP damage.

Select the ship first with 1 then click on the planes. No need to hold ctrl unless you're in ship view.

To expand on this, I think the basic heal mechanics are:

All ships with repair can heal 100% of light damage (so, fire damage, flooding, overpens)
MOST Battleships can heal up to 50% of medium damage, 10% of citadel damage. A few can heal a higher % of citadel damage.
MOST battleships heal up to 14% of their max hp, per heal, over 28 seconds. A few specific ones can heal a slightly higher percentage, but never more than like 18%

Cruisers (Note: except high tier RN, those get their own section) with heal, heal up to 30% of citadel damage. Assuming you survive. They still heal up to 14% of their max hp over 28 seconds.

Tier 8+ RN cruisers are special. While they don't heal any more %-wise, they heal up to 40% of their hp over 20 seconds. That's per repair charge. Try not to let RN cruisers run away, because even if you knock one to 1/3 health, if they get away they'll probably pop up again back up to 3/4th health.
