Quick question, UKMT - I am a senior manager in an IT company, although I do not have specific skills myself in coding or high-level technical knowledge.

1) Should I join a union?

2) Which one?

There is nothing going on currently that makes me feel I need union representation, it just feels like something I should do.

You don't have to 8e a good person to 8e a hero.
Always join a union if you can.

Would imagine CWU to be the best bet depending on your exact line of work.

gently caress the CWU, they turned down me and my (ISP) colleagues applications to join during the dotcom boom, when networking and IT staff really could have done with proper representation. Even though they're making attempts to enrol ISP staff now they're still basically a Post Office/BT club (and are resultantly full of thumb people).

GMB are cool and good, IMO.

I think fake testicles should be made out of a squeezable material, like a stress ball. Who can't say a quick squeeze on the old gonads wouldn't provide a quick stress breaker?

No, they are not. Good shout - I'll look into it.

Edit, to elaborate a little:

It's not a risk to me, but there is talk of bringing in mandatory drug testing for 1) only some teams and 2) no good reason. I am taking a really strong stand against it, and might at one point like to be able to say "and having spoken to the union...". I think getting the employees themselves to sign up is probably the best way to help.

I seem to recall that us having external testicles is something to do with temperature control, keeping our balls cooler than the rest of our body in order to protect the sperm. So a shell might run the risk of boiling our baby-juices.

Pretty much every senior IT manager, director, VP, etc, I have ever worked under has been technically illiterate. They're there to manage workers / polish shareholder balls, not because they have superior knowledge or experience.

So there's the cladding, the single escape route, the advice to stay put, probably flaws in the internal structure that allowed the fire to spread, the gas lines in the stairwell. The link between all of these things is a lack of regulation and enforcement and if those things weren't bad enough cuts to public services such as the fire brigade, nhs, police and housing have made the outcomes for everyone effect by this a lot worse.
