If everything is at the dealer, if you plan on selling in the future, some people will say oh nice all the records are from the dealer this person cared for this car I will now buy it right before the engine explodes into a wallet emptying spasm.

Pretty much. I'd go to a dealer for everything except a Cayman/Boxster/911 and only not them if there's a well known specialist available because the buyer of those cars are more likely to know the difference. Taking it to a dealer is nice for the perks of loaners and general pampering even though you still end up paying for it.

Dave Inc. posted:All of that is reasonably priced. Congratulations, now you understand why 944s are so cheap! I dunno, I figure the receipt showing the work being done by a specialist is worth a certain amount. Drove the car today, I notice a 'whirring' sound from the engine now. It almost sounds like a belt is too tight. I know the new timing belt has to be tensioned to nearly twice the tension of a used belt (4.0 vs 2.5 on the tool) so maybe it's that? He replaced all the idlers, tensioners and the drive belts too. Seems to drive fine, I've put about a hundred miles on it since he did the work. Also, I really need to dig into the wiring diagrams on this car. I have a Haynes with the diagrams. So far, the following doesn't work: Rear wiper, rear defroster, front windshield washer, power mirrors, clock. Power locks don't work but the button is missing entirely. A/C doesn't work but that's probably separate. Noticed this morning I don't have heat either, not sure what the deal with that is - blower works fine. Need to dig further into it. I still haven't found the car i want to even make an offer on yet I've decided I'm going to go whole hog and just get a 2000-2002 996. There is one for 500km away from me that seems to fit the bill. But that's a big road trip just to find out the car has some unspecified problem What would a real porsche wannabe owner do

So.... I'm considering another 05 Boxster: Looks to have some nice options, 90k km, listed for $18.5k CAD. I think it's a US origin car. Not a huge fan of the tan/yellow interior but I think I can get used to it, it works with the blue at least and it has a blue top which doesn't look bad. According to vindecoderz it had an engine failure in 08 at 38048 miles and was replaced by the dealer. When dealer replaces engines, I assume they would use the updated IMS design?

I've got a business trip coming up so it will be another fly and drive home but maybe I'll make it all the way home this time. Managed to agree on $16,750 canadian fun bucks ($12.6k USD) on this: Clean title, he's the 3rd owner (from the documents it looks like he's only had it for ~7k km), looks like new-ish michelin tires, I'm like 95% sure that is an aftermarket cluster background (FVD if my googling is correct) and the yellow face is not a factory option. The interior is going to take some getting used to, and I'm going to run a carproof before committing fully, but I think this looks like a pretty good deal. E: car proof came back good. Purchased in 06 originally, Canadian market car, had a nice big accident in 07 with front end damage, then just standard rego and owner change notifications. Since it's been a decade since the repair it's probably 100% fine. Been in Ontario it's whole life. Looks like vindecoderz engine failure record is not for this car, no record of it in the carproof. It's a pretty good looking car minus baggy seats, a weird two tone interior and the (I'm guessing) aftermarket screen dashboard. What would be a good price to offer? I was thinking 18k

Well, I fixed some stuff on the 944. Did some research online and saw that fuse 28 seems to be responsible for several systems. Checked my car, noticed it was missing, put in the proper amperage fuse, and now my rear wiper and power mirrors work. Probably the rear defroster, too. Who knows what else. I was checking for broken fuses earlier, but didn't notice one was missing entirely.

Hi guys, Wanted to ask a couple questions to Boxter s owners if there are any in this thread. Basically: -Out of the cars I was looking at which are Boxter s, bmw m4 and the corvette stingray, the boxter seems to have a perfect blend of fun and convenience. My last car was a Honda s2000 and I really enjoyed having a convertible that can also be a daily driver. How do you feel about the practicality of the car after using it for a while? For reference I am single, no kids no pets. -How is the maintenance and reliability? I read a lot of horror stories about BMW's and usually good things about Porsche and the Porsche service in North America but would love to hear from you guys. -What is your yearly maintenance cost like? Thanks so much in advance guys.
