Shifting just certain colors may be a bigger hit on the processor than those two or something.

Since the colors thing was mentioned at the same time as parental controls, I'm thinking it's a way for the parents to get you to stop playing without killing your game prior to saving. Instead you get a downgraded experience but you don't _have_ to stop without saving.

I watched that parental controls video on Father's Day and that moment when Bowser was imagining his son's game stopping actually made me legit tear up a little

I don't think the color change thing is something that you can put on a timer, and it's under system options not parental controls. It looks pretty dang cool though, I sent Nintendo feedback asking for even more options because negative universe Mario Kart is a cool option to have
