I'm pretty sure that on his door in the latest episode it shows his name as "Dougeas Jones" so I think "Dougea" is the canonical spelling.

I strongly disagree. And how on earth is she "reduced" to anything? We don't know know much about Diane yet, but it makes perfect sense for the evil Cooper to hurt her. Twin Peaks is about good vs evil, love vs violence.

Diane's dress is a very similar fabric, if not outright identical, to the three women leaning against the wall in the casino episode - who, interestingly, are never shown in the same shot as the rest of the characters in the scene. I think this is because Diane is secretly a large, multi story casino.

I have finally caught up with the show and I am currently loving just how often it has left me saying "what in the absolute hell" when a scene concludes. Dougie Coop is my new hero, I am sorry Coop 1.0.Rambling Robot posted:I strongly disagree. And how on earth is she "reduced" to anything? Escobarbarian posted:But you don't understand, Dern and Lynch are friends I believe that poster thinks that it would demonstrate a lack of complexity unfitting of her role for that to be the explanation, hence the phrasing of it being 'reduced to' that being the case. Maybe I'm giving them too much credit, though. edit: I should note that that doesn't mean I agree, just that it's what I think their thought process is. There is a mounting body of evidence that Janey-e is a good Doppelganger of the original evil Janey - and that there were four other, earlier Doppelgangers - Janey-a, b, c, and d, white lodge good spirits that have and still occupy various characters. I tentatively propose that the following character's have been occupied by the various Janey spirits, who I will short hand the jay-Z's. Janey A - Laura Palmer, original. Her name is the clue -Janey-e has palms, and Laura Palmer's name directly references that motif. Janey b - Laura Palmer identical cousin. Similar logic. Janey c - Aubrey Hawthorne, currently in coma. This I admit is a bit of a stretch as an individual case, if not for the fact that she 'blew the whistle' on her father's actions in one eyed jacks, and: Janey d - Gordon Cole - Gordon Cole was seen whistling this episode. Janey-e -always- has whistles on her clothes. It's also cynical of me to say this, but of course David lynch would want to cast himself as the penultimate Jay-Z. I know people want to see the real cooper back. I know. But this seasons climax will almost certainly be the Jay-Z's fighting bob, together, their energy combined into a gigantic, humanoid robot. It's only logical.

As much as I'm enjoying the Dougie storyline, I'm definitely hoping that we get old-school Coop back in the next few episodes. I'd like to enjoy the real Coop for more than just one or two episodes before the season ends.

I'm really confused why everyone is jumping straight to "bad coop raped her" too. All we know is that something deeply painful happened between the two of them. That's what's been shown on screen and in their performances. If you genuinely believe the only traumatic thing a man can do to a woman is rape her then you're not being very creative. Especially with such a close relationship as Cooper and Diane there are all sorts of things evil Coop would have done that felt like a huge betrayal to her. When you know someone extremely well, you know all the little things that cut them deep. A good person knows them to carefully step around them, but the dark version of a person might use them to hurt instead..

I would argue it's through both 1) knowing the nature of BOB/the evil Lodge spirits 2) being able to pick up on obvious context clues from decades of watching/studying film and television.

This is David Lynch though. There's no way he accidentally implied that bad Coop raped her. We'll probably never know what happened exactly but you are supposed to consider that as one of the possibilities.
