No, it's because the AHCA is the least popular legislation since TARP, and the less time the press has to cover its details the less damage it does to the GOP right now. Consider further that they're going to phase it in over several years to attempt to limit the real damage before the 2018/2020 elections and punt the blame for cutting out popular provisions to the state legislature by writing those cuts in as waiver options.

Public opinion on this has them spooked. Not enough to prevent action, but enough to attempt to mitigate the damage.

I hope they are not messing with the funding model for K-12 because that was really good at the time, although WY as a whole has a really bad problem with 1. electing dipshits, 2. the youth taking off to other places because there is nothing for them and 3. the olds not wanting any growth that effects their mineral rights old timeyness.

The biggest state programs in Wyoming are the department of family services and the department of education. And you bet your rear end that they've been swinging at it like a pinata with an axe since poo poo started going downhill in 2016. There have been layoffs all over the state's education system and there are likely more to come in the next biennium. The UW Outreach School is going away and a few majors have been eliminated because of low enrollment. Departments have been writing letters to the school's administration to validate their existence. I am told that a new high school that was built in Gillette was completed but will not be open for use because of funding cuts.

Wyoming is a place where people running as libertarians actually have a chance to get seats in the legislature, but all they do is side with Republicans on everything. My best friend is a rancher in Jeffrey City and she and her husband don't even bother with Democratic primaries because they know the poor fucker has no chance, so they register as Republicans and try to get the least-worst person they can to be on the Republican ticket come election day, but vote straight ticket D when they're at the polls. The state knows very well that young people try to get out of Wyoming and never come back if they can and laments about it, but they won't do a god drat thing about keeping ambitious people in the state beyond making UW a cheap school to go to and the Hathaway Scholarship. Once they're done, they typically get as far away from here as they can. The only old people that like it here have money and are comfortable or are too broke and/or too xenophobic to get out. If my father hadn't died at the beginning of the year, my parents would have moved somewhere that he could go for kidney dialysis that wasn't a 45-mile drive away once my mother was able to retire. Now she just wants to get the gently caress out of the state when she's retired, pray her house sells to anybody for as much as she can get, and never come back.

I don't see how Ossoff winning or losing would have changed the Republican Congressional agenda. If anything, him winning would have caused them to try to push things through faster. A loss certainly wouldn't stop them at this point, they're committed. But they're moving about as quickly as they can already. Only a halfway competent president would let them pass things faster.

No one is moving the goalposts. The point is that there will be no Democratic wave in 2018, and I stand by that. The Democrats needed a win, not a loss by smaller margins than the previous time, to keep the momentum going into 2018. People on the left are not waking up to the headlines of a loss and feeling energized that it wasn't a 20 point blowout. 10,000 more votes in GA-6 would not be indicative of Democratic wave either, but it would set the narrative that if the left maintains the much talked about level of energy and dedication to winning back the House, they can win deep red seats, and succeed. Resources and energy are going to be critical, and so far "the resistance" has nothing to show. No one cares about losing by less than expected. Why would someone donate time and money for the Democrats to lose by less than before in 2018? Democrats already don't vote in midterms, and a lot of fights liberals care about will already be over long before November 2018. What is going to be the incentive to get people to the polls in 2018?

A lot of people are going to see the constant losses and disengage until 2020 when they can go and vote against Trump. In our day to day lives, nothing has changed from a week ago or a month ago, but anyone trying to spin last night's result as positive for Democrats is no better than the crew at the The Young Turks who spent a year telling us that Trump would be better for progressive causes than Hillary.

wondering how many of you will be here apologizing if the dem wave is real and they retake the house en masse in 2018.

That would, in fact, be bad because of all the centrist Democrats who would get in and also because if we'd run more progressively we'd take the Senate.

Trump barely won GA-06 in 2016 and he's currently disliked by the vast majority of the population, Handel is fully on-board the Trump train and literally said out-loud that she doesn't believe in a living wage, the GA-06 seat became the most expensive House race in history - all of these factors means that GA-06 should be have been a grab for the Democrats.

People will point out that the Democrats are losing by less than usual, implying a Democratic surge; however, they're still losing. Hate for the Republicans' policies and hate for Trump simply isn't translating into support for Democrats. On top of that, Democrats already have trouble in mid-term elections, while Republicans are extremely loyal voters.

Look the way D's win isn't by increasing turnout in a district like this, it's by taking advantage of the naturally suppressed turnout of a party in power enacting unpopular legislation with a literal man child at the helm.

The D's dumped so much money and drew so much attention to the race it had a bigger turnout than the last midterm.
