The common travel aspects are pretty much guaranteed to be maintained, the issue is customs controls and border points - which existed since partition until 1993.

Oddly enough iirc it was discovered by a school child who was doing a science project, it's really really not hard to prove. You could even do it at home if you own a net. You take some bees and put them in with plants sprayed with nicotine pesticides, wait a bit and then they are dead.

I'll happily admit I'm not a bee researcher and I've gotten most of my info from lurking the various science threads on SA, which pretty much all seem to say that neonics aren't the be all and end all of the problem at all.

That's a pretty awful experiment though, no control group and no given concentration for the pesticide make it pretty much worthless.

We had direct rule from 2002-2007 and the troubles didn't come back by anyone's account - ceasefires largely held, the real IRA tried some poo poo but no one was interested, the IRA robbed a bank to pension out their membership (though this is denied of course) but the principles underscoring the GFA held

He's also being done because a ski resort of some kind he apparently runs legally doesn't exist and some guy just lost his leg there and it turns out the whole resort doesn't pay taxes either. OOPS!

Did teach me that money can't buy happiness though, they're the richest but also least happy family in my extended family.
In a few ways extreme wealth makes happiness harder to come by although it's still infinitely preferable to poverty which makes things vastly harder.

Not understanding economics and trusting tabloids has a lot to do with it, I suspect. The idea that we've been lied to for years and that austerity really is to line the pockets of the rich, rather than a harsh necessity that these naive coddled youngs just don't understand, is quite a tough pill to swallow. No-one likes to admit to themselves that they've been conned.

I always remembered the green bit as being pear flavoured. That's when we discovered that they come in different flavours in the UK and (north and south) Ireland. Do yours really have pineapple ice cream? I need to try these.

Obviously sinn fein wouldn't want direct rule to last forever but a period of it would probably help improve their political position within NI. People are more likely to listen to a nationalist message when being ruled by an English minister in Westminster.

This in my mind is one of the most damning indictments of capitalism as a hierarchy that exists. What's the point of having a system that allows people to accumulate wealth through exploiting the labour of others when the people who have accumulated the wealth are still loving miserable?
