Lightning Lord posted:If the border is hard wouldn't that effectively destroy Ireland as we know it though? I thought part of the point is how free Irish people are to move around the whole island The common travel aspects are pretty much guaranteed to be maintained, the issue is customs controls and border points - which existed since partition until 1993. People remember them being poo poo and know the economic effects of tariffs will hit us hard (again their have been historic trade wars between Ireland and the UK) The only people that are going to blow stuff up about it are people already trying to blow up the police

Bare in mind that there are now over 500 peer reviewed papers and reports that prove this connection, and the people with a vested interest in these pesticides keep on rolling out the same few pet scientists with their bullshit "evidence". I'll happily admit I'm not a bee researcher and I've gotten most of my info from lurking the various science threads on SA, which pretty much all seem to say that neonics aren't the be all and end all of the problem at all. That's a pretty awful experiment though, no control group and no given concentration for the pesticide make it pretty much worthless.

The troubles aren't coming back. Except direct rule? Correct me if I'm wrong but nobody's at the table right now. Meanwhile one half of the people who used to be at that table are at the other table in Westminster, strongarming the Tories. Edit: Not that I think they're going to break out the Armalites, mind you, at least not before things get a lot worse than they are now.

Yeah there's very little chance NI goes back to outright violence but things are going to be a political clusterfuck. Non zero chance of a united Ireland at the end of it though which would be pretty crazy.

I'm gonna guess that maintaining the terms of the GFA might be part of a sensible Brexit negotiation process. Unfortunately the current negotiators are not sensible

Why would you rent a luxury flat anyway? You're pissing above the average salary worth of money into a black hole every year. Super rich people are extremely stupid with money. I have a super wealthy uncle who is having to flee the country for 6 years because he hasn't paid any income tax basically in his whole life. For fucks sake. He's also being done because a ski resort of some kind he apparently runs legally doesn't exist and some guy just lost his leg there and it turns out the whole resort doesn't pay taxes either. OOPS! Last time I went to visit that lot we were drinking heavily and I came into the kitchen and my girlfriend was completely destroying his Tory (ofc) ideology just by pointing out the amount of money an average person earns and has to spend on just living. He was in a drunken depression admitting "I fundamentally vote Tory because I'm selfish".

Did teach me that money can't buy happiness though, they're the richest but also least happy family in my extended family. In a few ways extreme wealth makes happiness harder to come by although it's still infinitely preferable to poverty which makes things vastly harder.

Regarding the Twister (the Absolute Boy of the ice lolly world), I recall someone posting in a previous edition of UKMT that the green bit of Twisters were made from lime ice. I always remembered the green bit as being pear flavoured. That's when we discovered that they come in different flavours in the UK and (north and south) Ireland. Do yours really have pineapple ice cream? I need to try these.

People are more likely to listen to a nationalist message when being ruled by an English minister in Westminster.

That's the only alternative to capitalism which has existed since the first caveman exchanged a fish for a short position on bonded fish futures and certainly wasn't a recent introduction.
