Theresa May ran the worst campaign in recent memory, but still came out with more seats than Labour. They've realized that the sheer inertia of being the Conservative party is all that's needed. I'll give it a few weeks before Auld Tess is appearing in public sans human suit, in all her terrifying reptilian glory.

That's utter bollocks because (if I remember the number right) there are more than 3,000 residential buildings over 10 storeys tall in London alone and of those I'd say the majority have "some sort" of cladding. I'd accept "there are 600 towers built or refurbished since this sort of cladding came on the market and some of them will have the kindling stuff", as those are the sort of numbers central Government might be able to get their hands on in a hurry.

They love falling back on the Stephen Lawrence case too, so increasingly desperate to have some contemporary example of being positively socially relevant that they act as though they were the absolute lynchpin without whom the entire case would have been lost.

Lot of conflicting information about the Tory/DUP deal today. The guardian and BBC have both published stories claiming a final deal is imminent with May caving in to every demand including the £2billion and expanding the military covenant. Meanwhile they've also published stories claiming Tory MP's are backing away from the deal after legal threats relating to the GFA. Also with rich people cladding are we talking like that episode of Rick and Morty where the giant dome is covered in Mortys and they're all being tortured constantly? That would be hardly fair on the occupants, think of the poor person who has Boris Johnson's bare arse plastered across their window.

It get's better/worse. The original piece was intended to be an attack piece on the campaigners who were pushing for justice, but when the journo who was doing it realised that Stephen's dad had been working on Dacre's house as a plasterer he reported back to the office and was told by the news desk to do something sympathetic.

Yup. According to this Guardian article which quotes Doreen Lawrence's book Though I did get one thing wrong, Neville Lawrence was a builder, not a painter. The problem is that Paul Dacre leads a massively sheltered life, gets a chauffeur driven car from his front door to the Mail office where he apparently puts in extremely long days, then heads straight home. The only plebs he has contact with are presumably the cleaners of his building and the sort of tradesman who might be doing up his home. He's completely tucked away from the real world, free to spout his xenophobic fear mongering, homophobic bile without the risk of many real people who could challenge his world view. I mean this is a oval office who fell out with Tony Blair because of Blair's progressive views on gay rights & Cherie's public breastfeeding. No one person has done so much harm to this country since Thatcher was punted out of office by her own party.
