Pretty sure they can just replay what they showed last year and everyone will applaud.

**BREAKING*** two sources have now confirmed that 3.0 is such a technological nightmare, and performance hog, that nobody knows how they are going to end up releasing it within the current time frame; let alone for GamesCom.

Croberts working on his new justification speech (aka newsletter), in which he may have no choice but to admit that the switch to LY hasn't been as straightforward (gee, who knew!?) as they made it out to be - seven months ago.

It's amazing to me that since July 2015, I've been right about so many things, that those guys don't even bother recapping them anymore. This despite the fact that I document them religiously in my blogs and forum posts - for a reason.

All that aside, the primary claim that "they can't build the game as pitched" and which everyone was saying that I was wrong about, remains true.

Ignoring the $150m (they were at $85, and have since passed this) + proper engine (they switched to the more advanced LY) that I said they would need to pull it off.

Recently (well, before GamesCom 2016), I said that they simply didn't have the tech to do procedurally generated planets, that the pitched 3.0 was bullshit dipped in Ether. Less than 6 months later, 3.0 has been significantly scaled back. And has moons - in a level - instead of procedural planets (shown in an elaborate R&D video showcase posing as in-game).

ps: There is another JPEG sale tomorrow June 23rd. So they're probably going to lie in tomorrow's 3.0 schedule update, then update it again the following week with the proper data.

No way they skip GamesCom. It's one of their major crowdfunding shindigs. Combined with CitizenCon, it's their end of year 2-for-1 backer face punch.

Your roof texture is very non-fidelitous. Better refactor now before they begin.

Be sure to install the ceiling lights first thing though so everybody can see what they're building. After that I suggest you begin landscaping immediately, followed up with windows. Probably do your roof next after the refactor and think about the color you want the foundation to be.

By then though you'll know that your lights aren't the right color of white, so you'll need to get better lights. Have them install the kitchen sink so you can verify that it is deep enough for your future dishes.

Ha ha, of course they've retreated to Germany.

Germany is important for them. For some reason those tedium games like Euro Truck Simulator or farming Simulator or loving airport bus driving simulator is "the hot poo poo" in Germany, as the cool kids say. When Star Citizen comes along and offers the opportunity to be a truck driver (in space) or a news van driver (in space) or a box stacking specialist (in space), the Germans are all jumping at the opportunity and opening their wallets.

So, in a way, you could say the game is Kraut funded.

This falls in line with CIG coding expectations.

The guys doing cargo were their own group, so they assigned "cargo" to a piece of cargo. The ship itself doesn't have cargo, but it can hold these boxes maybe.

It's also the FPS system and not the space system, which is hard.

You buy a box, get a box, move the box by hand, then load the box. Do this for each box. Fly somewhere else. Unload the box, sell the box, do this for each box. And done!

Looking forward to the immersion videos!!!

Apparently there are people who would like to do that in the game. Load their ships with cargo themselves.
Or Chris thinks there are.
Or people think that it would be a great feature, even though they will never actually use it, because of the multitude of realistic scenarios it somehow opens up.

My guess is that the simple implementation of carrying a small box is as far as they are going to get with this one. Then nobody will use it, and they will decide to cut it out.

Could someone explain to me how the 'see in to surrounding instances' thing they bang on about works in theory? If I'm being sent all the info about a player characters position and actions how are we not in the same instance? How does it reduce any kind of resource usage? I'm horribly confused by it as a concept.
I don't even understand it and I've seen it explained a dozen times.

People were expecting there to be some kind of instance system where you would have an instance inside a ship, an instance for space around the ship and an instance in an adjoining ship. Somehow taking the benefits of instancing and splitting all of this up into 3 separate portions.

But THEN they expected to fire from one instance in FPS through a hole or something (the ship) into the second instance (space) and have their bullets enter a third instance (the other ship) and this was the plan for years and no backers ever gave enough of a poo poo to realize this is impossible.

Apparently after four years Chris Roberts has to admit that it's impossible and is now just talking about larger player cap single instances (so you can have your ship + space + ship and fire bullets from ship to ship) which in theory is a step above making up the worlds most complicated and impossible plan, but is still implausible since he explains it like he has no idea what the gently caress he is talking about and they have shown zero ability to come anywhere near what he is promising or what would be required.

People were saying 3 years ago that the instancing system they proposed was not only stupid but impossible, so it's a good thing they are just now realizing what the base network mechanics should be, as of right now.
