I liked stalker a lot, but I remember being bothered that (at least in the first one), nightfall never actually happened. It would just kind of get cloudy but never dark. Then I found out there's a very popular "weather overhaul" mod that makes it pitch-rear end black at night, as it should be, and it completely changed the game experience for the better

yeah there's a few mods that make a massive difference to polish. don't go overboard with the total conversions or w/e but I think Stalker Complete(?) is the general "everything is improved" one the one extra mod i always recommend that people use is the realistic-weapon-accuracy mod. it applies to both you and the enemies, and basically just drastically cuts down the random inaccuracy from the guns, so that a rifle can actually hit people 100+ yards away in single-shot mode. drives me loving nuts when games put an RNG in the gun barrel that makes your bullets spray like peeing with a hard-on even though you have the crosshairs right on the target anyway bc you can hit people from farther away and they also can laser you eyeball from the same distance, you end up playing it more like arma, with lots of sneaking around and long-range plinking from the bushes, which really suits the game much better than getting up into people's faces.

I'm told it's a good representation of the bay area with a lot of local color and minor landmarks and it's not a dark and gritty vengeance drama any more, it's about goofy millennials being dicks to each other and the villain is a tech bro ceo syscall girl posted:firefox has encountered an unexpected problem
