I don't think it matters all that much to contact your republican senator. They can probably assume you voted democrat and will go "Eh, you didn't vote for me" and ignore you. If you're gonna try to contact and convince a senator, you have to flood him out. Make it impossible for him to do anything else but be notified how many thousands of letters, phonecalls, emails and visitors he's getting on the issue.
