Kurtofan posted:can someone tell me what glastonbury is One thing that distinguishes it from other festivals is that the camping (you bring your own tents etc unless you're super posh) is mingled within all the entertainment areas. There are obviously designated camping fields and such, but they are interspersed within the whole place rather than like most other music festivals where you have separate camping/accommodation and entertainment areas. Also you are absolutely allowed to bring as much of your own alcohol/food in from home as you want - the only rule is no glass containers. It's pretty expensive though (hence its reputation as very middle class) - £238 this year, plus another £1/200 for buying food/drink there. [/seriouspost]

Part of the fun, before they made the site an inpenetrable fortress, was to get into glasto without paying by finding breaches in the fence.

Be careful with off-brand toners with them- the last one I bought cheap remained a bit powdery and seems to rub away/look quite grey, and the price difference between branded and off-brand aren't quite as steep as the inkjet carts- especially when you note that the estimated number of pages per drum can vary quite widely. Either way it's a fuckload cheaper and faster to operate than an inkjet for text

However it was getting silly, lots of robberies - you would get little gangs of kids (stereotypically scousers) going through the fields when people were out dancing and slashing tents + robbing people. Plus it was way over capacity. I went a few times before the fence went up in the late 1990s and it was easily 250k people there. The fence HAD to go up though, they were going to lose their license as the local council were getting pissed off. The first year after the fence went up it felt half empty lol. But subsiquently theyve increased the official capacity year on year so it's back up to actual much higher numbers. It was my local festival, so much so that one year I actually walked home from the site to my parent's house. Which was lovely.

When you could get in for free was when it was properly crazy. It was completely over crowded but the atmosphere was amazing. You used to have all these travelling sound systems from the free party circuit converging with ridiculous amounts of drugs etc. That being said it's probably much nicer for a normal person wanting a bit of fun for a weekend now.

If it was PU foam as people have been saying then yeah the most significant gases it gives out when burned are carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide.
|
# ? Jun 23, 2017 11:37 |

Cyanide is a pretty common product of stuff burning. It's responsible for most smoke inhalation deaths. Usually it's formed when stuff that contains nitrogen, like nylon, polyurethane, or nitrile, burns not polyethylene, which is what they were saying was in the panels. I could understand if they were PU panels. What's more likely is that the cladding set the whole building on fire, and then some of that other stuff gave off cyanide. e: ^^ Yeah, or they were PU panels, they were saying polyethylene on the news.
