Fulchrum posted:FIne, how about "If instead of a general election, Labour had been forced to take place in an election involving only seats in Swindon, Isle of Wight, Mole Valley and Winchester, they would have done no better than the Dems did in SC-05, GA-06, KS-04, and Montana". WIll you concede that? Maybe. I dont know how hard labour focussed on places like that tbh this time round since it was a shorter campaign.

Yeah people who do modeling have a habit of moving in a way that works very very well for still photography but which seems a bit odd when you see a video of them or meet them in person. Those videos of models moving through like 20 poses in a few seconds is a good (if extreme) example of it in action. Kind of looks like they are doing the robot.

Fulchrum posted:So what you're saying is, Corbyn has an easier time and the Dems are doing better? What the gently caress are you talking about? I'm talking about the extremely basic political fact that active political gerrymandering doesn't result in super-safe seats like Salisbury, they result in a maximum number of seats where the gerrymandering party has a comfortable advantage. From this immediately follows that the safest seats in the U.K. are very likely to be much safer than the safest seats in the US. Hence you're either bullshitting hard by drawing an equivalence between two vastly different cases so you can pretend that your dumb worldview is still legitimate, or you're just ignorant as all hell.

Not sure what the mods were expecting when they immediately closed the ga-06 thread. When has that ever not resulted in massive post spillover into other threads? They should have let the tut-tuts and told-you-so's happen. Personally, the issue with Ossoff's results isn't that he did well (he did), but rather that with millions of dollars of support he managed to turn in less impressive results than three candidates given no money and running on leftism and community roots. IMO we should all be happy the takeaway from this seems to be "triangulating centrists fail really hard" rather than "if we funnel millions of dollars into wet fart candidates we might be able to win! Status Quo! Status Quo!" E: Not even the most disingenuous poster can get away with saying Corbyn lost. With no support among the echelons of Labour or any news outlet he resuscitated his party in every district, and would be PM if scottish labour hadn't ran away from him and gave up SNP seats to Tories. He's at a point where conservatives are adopting policies he publically suggests just to avoid countrywide backlash over said policies not yet existing.
