Bob McKenzie was just on the radio saying the Canucks didn't have a strong desire to mix things up and then the recent three time champs trade a star and the Coyotes pick up two very good players because they know what they're doing and aren't lazy and pathetic.

Saad is younger and locked into 6m whereas Panarin will probably get more in his next contract, and it's possible Chicago might win the rest of the trade. I guess?

Saad is a better two way player, I suppose, and the Hawks might feel they need that with Hossa's LTIR banishment? That said losing Toftbo will erase any defensive benefit Saad brings, as it's a pretty sharp dive from him and Keith to anyone else on that blue line.

At least it's better than the Butler trade!

Yes

He sucked terribly last year but lots of people blamed Tippet for that (though I think Duclair has always had some ups and downs with consitent effort)

If it was just the 7th and DeAngelo then yeah that's terrible but there has got to be more or they would have done this sooner

yes but Sutter would've had a career year in goals if it weren't for an injured wrist that kept him out of zero games. Benning actually said that. He's delusional and I hate that I don't have any options other than to hope the things he does don't prevent us from being respectable again until the 2030s.

I mean Stepan isn't amazing or anything but you get a maybe good defenseman with attitude problems and a pick for a 50-60 point center and potential starting goalie? I don't get it

Luckily the fact that Vancouver is above only Winnipeg (maybe) as a free agent destination will probably prevent Benning from doing whatever stupidity he has planned.

After 17-18 Stepan's salary is less than his cap hit, so that's pretty peak Arizona too.

Only thing I can think is that the Rangers really felt they needed to move Stepan before his NTC kicked in on the 1st but no one was giving them any better offers so they took what they could get. Goalies don't usually return much but I guess Raanta=DeAngelo

Rangers could get a real good player at #7 but not likely one that's gonna be NHL ready I would think

I don't really know a ton about DeAngelo other than he's a hot head, good skater who can move the puck but hasn't started putting up points

e: this really increases the chances the Rangers are going to sign Shattenkirk

Yes this plan will work perfectly, ship out all the young talent that are the future of the team and keep all your overpaid deadwood.

I mean...the overpaid deadwood is kind of impossible to move given the NMCs Bowman handed out like candy. Figured Kruger be the only one going (if that) after Hossa's unofficial retirement.

Because I agree, Toftbo leaving and Seabrook staying leaves the Hawks defense in demonstrably worse shape than last year, and it wasn't all that great last year!
