I wish you could fast-forward faster in NG+ because suddenly I realize how slow all the text is moving and I miss the ability to skip to next scene like VNs.

I know what you mean. I've spent a lot of time dwelling on the story structure while I clown on shadows all the way through a palace thanks to Seth and Trumpeter. Ironically, of the 3 modern Persona games, P3 actually does the best job threading that needle. In Persona 4 & 5, the plot outside the metaverse has you confronting a series of obstacles to your mission, mostly identifying the next victim/target or gathering information about same. Trouble is, there's no way to overcome that obstacle in advance either through clever thinking, or just knowing the answer ahead of time. You only solve the problem when the game is good and ready for it to be solved. In other words, the plot is presented as a mystery, but it's not a mystery-solving game, it's a linear JRPG.

This has never been a problem for me on the initial playthrough because I'm too busy experiencing everything for the first time (and possibly going crazy trying to squeeze in everything I want to do). But on successive playthroughs, the... stretchmarks, for want of a better term, are way more noticeable. Everything before the one true date of Solving the Problem as Foretold in Prophecy is just pointless busywork where none of your responses effect the progression, and only barely effect your team's responses. For Persona 5, I found this to be most grating in the run-up to Palaces 3 & 5 but YMMV.

Persona 3 is hardly innocent of arbitrarily yanking days off your schedule (e.g., stomach flu), but note that for the most part it passes through those parts fairly quickly. Meanwhile, the structure of the plot remains fairly straightforward: there's a time limit, at the end of it a big nasty shadow is going to show up and wreak havoc, so go study/work in a cafe/train in the surreal hell tower in the meantime. It's not an unalloyed good--Tartarus is boring, and only avoids being the worst dungeon due to Mementos lovely music--but it does avoid the problem with P4 & 5's structure. I don't know of an easy solution to this, at the very least the option to cut out some of the running in circles in NG+ would be very much appreciated.

(Or you could make any time spent with the characters so gosh darn charming that you don't mind listening to them rehash the same idea over and over again, but I can't think of any JRPGs that are THAT good. The saving grace of Persona is that they do a much better job than most.)

Also I don't want to do NG+ anytime soon because while you can blaze through the battles you'll still need to do all the puzzles which by the time you get to palace 7 are insufferable

I get used to it since I set down to Safety mode and zone out in palaces. It's me, I'm the person who played P4 5x including P4:G on Vita. The game is still extremely stylish and entertaining just rmb you can't do anything but sleep if you're standing in your room vs walking upstairs later on.

Also, I need to complete more SL and go fishing on weekends.

Palace 3's passwords can be skipped since they don't change at least. Which is nice.

Is there any limit to the number of times you can watch the Reaper drop dead of a flu virus? I'm out of Mementos bosses to confuse and it seems like the quickest way to make money. It'd take away what little challenge remains in NG+ even on Merciless, buuuuut fusing a lot of this stuff is getting bloody expensive.

I'm already IN New Game+, I finished it the first time around 72 because I wanted at least some challenge when I was fighting the last boss. Trying to use this run for Platinum, though it looks like I'm going to fall short on finishing all the games; gently caress you, Train of Life.

No, but the reaper gives gently caress-all money, about 3K per kill. I'm also in NG+ and I farmed it for exp until I hit level 99 and then fused everything normally using Mementos personas as fodder.

BTW, apart from Alice, Shiva and Ardha, are there any other secret fusions I'm missing?

Well just finished the game, probably GOTY for me but I have played only a limited amount of big releases this year. Couldn't resist Reaper farming my way to level 95 and fusing up one of those unkillable Yoshitsunes though so the game was cake but I still enjoyed it a ton. I was boring and romanced Ann :tutbutt:, it will definitely be Kawakami though in NG+. This was my only Persona game but if I wanted more then Persona 4 Golden should be right up my alley right? I've heard a lot of good things at least.

Question: are you forced to dungeon crawl until you get Ann when you go back to the castle? I'm going through this game's lines out of curiosity and i found lines involving the gun shop and medicine store and where Morgana is staying that doesn't involve Ann (though from the last line it sounds like she's watching), so I was wondering if this is an alternate scene you can actually see or not.

I think so. I don't think you can go to the Weapon store until after Ann joins the team. Same with the clinic.

Going to the clinic the first time is an automatic scene with just you and Morgana, and the weapons store is the next day with Ryuji I think.

Max out the social link. Social link scenes are typically more rewarding, and they carry over into NG+ in case you're into that

If you're bothered about trophies, you get one for doing all the Mementos requests. You could always just do the request for the trophy and then reload to do the Priestess link afterwards.

Why does everyone think I'm going to get in trouble?

That assumes you've been doing all the S Links that get you Mementos requests though. I love the last request, I think it's hilarious, but S Link completion should take priority.

So I'm confused about the main character surviving Aketchi killing him Did Aketchi kill a cognition of him in the once the Nav activated? If so, why was the cognition just conveniently sitting there?[spoiler] Or [spoiler]did he kill the main character when the main character themselves entered the Nav? If so, I assumed that if someone from the real world died in the Nav world then they would die in real-life.

Yes.

They were inside Sae's Palace, or at least, her cognition, and the last place she saw the MC was in the interrogation room, meaning that's how she saw the MC and so that's how he appeared in her cognition.

That's also why, when she goes back, the guard is still waiting for Akechi and not dead so she can tell him to run for his life.

Sae's cognition of everything besides the Prosecutor's Office/Casino is perfectly undistorted. They make of a note of the Police Station looking exactly the same as the real world when they first enter the palace. So there's a fake cognitive version of Joker sitting in the interrogation room, because Sae just spent an hour talking to him locked up in there.

There is one big plothole, at least to me.
SOMEONE would have needed to go in that room to mop up. A janitor or a "cleaner" or someone. You're not just going to leave a whole bunch of juicy forensic evidence laying around and stinking up the place, no matter how in your pocket the cops are. I guess they could all just assume someone else cleaned up already, but it still seems like a flaw to me.

This could definitely use some clarifying, but I think we're meant to assume that Sae is running interference on that front. She knows enough about the conspiracy to pretend to be a part of it while taking advantage of its compartmentalized, "The Right Hand doesn't know what The Left is doing" nature.

Not that I don't still get a huge laugh out of the bad guys not realizing there's no corpse.

Sae grabbed MC and snuck him out.

If you're talking about whoever was supposed to go in there to find him instead of Sae, that was supposed to be the police, finding him the same way as Akechi left him, having committed suicide after grabbing the gun from the guard.

In reality, the guard ran away, Sae took MC away, and there was already a death certificate and suicide story setup to be released to the public, so the police rolled with that. If anybody did go down there to check/clean up, well, the story was the body was taken to the morgue, so it's no wonder he's gone. It's only after the Phantom Thieves reveal themselves again that somebody goes "wait, the paperwork says the coroner took the body, but he says he never did, so where is it?"
