If only we had some kind of nationalized system that would put the burden of the costs on the gov and force them to impose limits on costs. But nay, it is but a dream.

Productivity is up, the economy is producing well, but workers aren't feeling that in their wallets. Since 2007, the vast majority of pay gains have not gone to the working class; conservatives and democrats alike are feeling that, but conservative media redirects that ire towards 'job-killing regulations' (aka the thing preventing corporations from raking in even more profits that they won't share with their workers). Also, this was too good )read: frustrating) to pass up. A comment from the video linked above: quote:Whether this guy makes 15 bucks an hour or not, nobody working a fry machine is worth 15 bucks an hour. If there was gonna ever be a fast food employee that was worth 15 bucks an hour though it would be Chick-fil-A as they have NEVER screwed up my order ever, and they are polite to boot. I think McDonalds employees should be paid less then minimum wage until they can fill an order correctly. For those that are screaming livable wage.....fast food isn't meant to be a career unless you are going into management! Nobody retires from the fry machine after 40 years! Can American get real please? I'm sick and tired of this mammy pammby generation that thinks everything should come fast and or easy. You know why your parents have it better then you kids? Because they spent their whole lives working for it! You are meant to be poor to start life! If you are 45 and running the fry machine....well looks like you got started later in life probably because of poor choices earlier....no shortcuts.

There's apparently another generic coming on the market that will undercut even the cheaper Epipen. The thing that never seemed to get much attention is that most people who needed Epipens don't pay those huge markups. But local governments were paying a premium since by law every school is now required to keep 2 in stock. And of course they need to be replaced as they expire. That's a huge income stream that isn't price sensitive that no one seemed to talk about.

One more dystopia-becomes-utopia True socialism will be born out of space colonization. A martian colonist's needs must all be met for the colony to survive. These founding principles will be locked into the culture just as our institutional racism and marriage to market capitalism were for us. As earth slowly rots in a slow simmer, so with it will die capitalism. Martians will offer aid to the limping earth in exchange for a restructuring of its economy. Finally, after several caretaker generations, equality in America will be achieved.

So what would it cost for a US citizen to go to a Canadian doctor and pick up some meds? At what point is that a reasonable course of action?

I've always assumed that the fight against single payer and covering preexisting conditions was (in addition to the obvious profitability) an intentional design to keep the working class in line. When the only reasonable way to get healthcare for yourself and your family is to take a lovely job that provides it, you'll take the lovely job. Once you have coverage through that job, anything you go to the doctor for essentially becomes blackmail material, because pretty much any of it constitutes a pre-existing condition now. If you lose that job, that's it. Not only is your healthcare gone (unless you can pay it entirely out of pocket) but now you may never be able to get it back, from any provider. Even if you get a new job immediately, they tend not to begin offering coverage until 90 days after hiring, which means you weren't covered for a while and your preexisting conditions now count against you. That's a deviously effective way to keep workers scared and compliant. It means any plan other than taking AND KEEPING a job forever with an employer that provides coverage is wildly irresponsible... Even worse if you have a family to care for. Want to quit and find a higher paying job? Go for it, but that medication you need won't be covered anymore. Can you afford that? Want to quit and start your own business? Go of for it... Gee, I hope your kid's minor health issue never gets any worse. Is your boss abusing you, harassing, or doing shady poo poo? You could fight back, but if things don't go your way, say goodbye to that insulin you need. Hey, they just cut your pay at work again to pay for the boss' new yacht. You could complain, maybe try to unionize... but that would likely just lead to them replacing you. Congrats, your Wife's cancer treatments just came to a sudden end, and you've effectively killed her. Welp, you know the saying, "The squeaky wheel gets to raise uninsured motherless kids alone."

I know we get a lot of international folks in here, so maybe one of y'all know enough about this. So, I think I might qualify for German citizenship under the restoration laws. The long and short of it is that if you used to be German, and then it was the Nazis who made it so you weren't anymore, you get to be German again any time you want it. And, this also applies to descendants. My grandfather was a holocaust survivor born in Germany, and based on the documents I've seen so far it looks like I qualify, although I haven't got everything yet. So, assuming I do qualify, is there any way to buy into the German healthcare system while living abroad? It'd be nice to have an emergency thing just in case of like, cancer or something insanely serious. For routine care I guess I'll be on my own but I'm basically healthy right now.
