He's vastly less "there" than just 10 years ago, and the fact that there's lots of video of him makes this pretty plain. This is what mild cognitive impairment looks like.

Just my take.

Alternitively he's egocentric and cares more about looking good and being smug than he does about protecting classified information. We don't need to project mental illness on someone when we inherently only get information about him through a filter and then are biased towards all his actions being wrong. I see we're still in the denial stage of grief. Trump isn't actually president because his mind didn't make it into the whitehouse.

I don't know how you get to 50 from this. Paul is probably a hard no, Lee and Johnson haven't been specific with their demands and Cruz and Heller want Medicaid spending to go in opposite directions. Enshallah some of the other moderates will start bailing once the CBO score hits.

Johnson wants attention. His ask was literally "more information" so he'll vote for it now that he's gotten that attention. This thing from Lee is confusing enough I can't tell if he can get satisfied with an amendment that other people won't hate.

Can't find any instance in history of a reconciliation bill being defeated on the floor.
But there's never been a bill quite like AHCA/BRCA.
CRS lists 24 budget reconciliation measures passed by Congress; 20 became law, 4 were vetoed. They don't list any that were defeated.
What HAS happened are long meetings in leadership offices to get people to yes, followed by agreement, followed by successful vote to pass. Take the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005. Backroom deals saved it from several near-death experiences. Passed by ultra-slim margins. If you go back and read the debate among Republicans at the time it's clearly from a very different era. I covered as CQ's budget reporter. Senate moderates like Snowe/Collins objected to relatively small cuts to Medicare/Medicaid ($10B/5 years)

AHCA/BRCA would cut Medicaid in ballpark of $800B/10. (And BRCA much more ensuing decades). >Order of magnitude difference. In 2005, leaders/conservatives wanted deeper cuts and ANWR but provisions kept getting jettisoned/added to get votes in both chambers. Key came when the Ohio House delegation threatened to tank the bill unless oxygen tank co's kept $2B Medicare payments. Hastert caved. Moderates also banded together in House to block ANWR. It came out. Final Senate vote was 51-50 with Dick Cheney casting the tie-breaking vote. The bill helped pay for a 2nd reconciliation bill providing another round of tax cuts. Dem messaging focus was similar to today: Rs cutting programs for poor to pay for tax cuts for wealthy.

In the House, the $2B oxygen tank amendment passed Rules Committee at 2:30 a.m.; votes started a little after 4. Never seen a happier Rep than Dave Hobson after I asked him at 4:30 something like "what's it like to be the $2 billion man?" It was an era before Politico, before Twitter, etc. Roy Blunt held a presser around 5 in Speaker's Lobby. I think 2-3 reporters showed up. Bill passed earlier morning; filed full story and went to breakfast.

We could be in for a similar all-nighter-dealmaking scenario in Senate this week. Both ahead of MTP and before end of Vote-a-Rama.

And a good laugh to start off your Saturday:
