Xcom 2 was good but the combat boiled down to manipulating when in a turn the enemy would see you, and the difference between a terrible fight and good fight was almost 100% based on it.

I was thinking about Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and it seems like it presents one of the strengths of Democracy as a baseline minimum competence of leaders. They might be cowards or poo poo heads or entirely self-serving, but with a democracy you won't get a complete hosed up retard monster like you can get with a hereditary monarchy. lol
