Somehow, I think there's a misunderstanding between the difference of national senate and state senate.... Rendon (who is a CA assemblyman in Washington apparently?) is saying the CA state legislature needs to fight against Trumpcare (where?) by NOT passing a state plan? and PP agrees with him? Like what else will the CA state legislature do to aid their DC allies against Trumpcare? Retweet "Trumpcare is bad"? Call national Democrats and tell them "Keep fighting against Trumpcare, it's v bad. I got you homie"? It seems like a deliberate shelving because "I don't wanna deal with it/I don't actually support it, so I'll make some dumbshit smart-sounding excuses."

Who the gently caress even pays for a mag sub in the year of our current era 2017? I come from family who has worked in the blue collar half of the print industry in a state timelocked and forgotten and even I can say it's useless if you have an internet connection, despite it being more viable here as a medium than elsewhere.

quote:As publisher and editor, Sunkara draws a small salary for Jacobin-related work, but works another job around 20 hours a week. The magazine’s only full-time staffer is creative director Remeike Forbes. For digital pieces, contributors get 50 dollars; for print pieces, they get $200. The majority of them are graduate students or young professors. Interns at Jacobin get paid 15 dollars an hour, while the people who help with shipping and other “grunt work” get around $16 an hour. Says Sunkara: “There’s not a place on the masthead for that work, and also, that’s the hidden labor, so we try to pay for that first.” For reference this was the wages 3 years ago.

PP is correctly fearful of the Republican bill to eliminate funding. But I think their compliance with Rendon's decision reeks of misdirected desperation. They should actually be desperate to get SB562 passed instead of put on hold so state legislators can take the fight to ... DC.
