Staying abreast of the latest developments in jam communism

Currently on my way back from Glasto. I saw Corbyn in the left field tent with a great view. We didn't bother trying to see him on Pyramid stage because it was heaving. Busier than any other act I saw this year or last year.

He did a half hour talk at the left field. It was extremely loving good. It was very moving too. He talked about when he met Syrian refugees before (I think?) the current civil war kicked off, and how these people would sometimes burn to death in their tents because of their gas heaters :smith:. He was also constantly hammering home housing, the NHS, social care and education. Hopefully someone uploads a video of the whole thing.

yeah, this is what annoys me about the people complaining about the politicisation of glastonbury by corbyn, Glasto has always had a large number of political things going on, it's not just the music.

hopefully that speech can be uploaded

Edit: ^^^ yeah that looks like the one. Can't check because I'm phone posting atm.

The other thing is that there were easily over 100,000 people at pyramid. I don't think people are getting just how easy it is for him to draw a crowd.

Is Stella Creasy still putting forward her Queen's Speech amendment to let NI women get abortions on the NHS? That might throw a spanner in the works.

Policy section a bit slim, military covenant stuff (whatever that means), 2% military spending, pension triple lock, winter fuel allowance and that's about it?

So the magic money tree is funding not just that extra billion for NI but also the scrapping of several of their austerity policies?

Judging by her tweets today and last night, absolutely. She's even been arguing with Paisley Jr. on Twitter.

Also being fair, that's despite the majority of your country voting to leave that travel area and the government basically ignoring it in favour of a 'Swiss First' employment system.

Least the whole DUP deal/abortion thing is likely to bury the 'Corbyn wants to give our nukes away to the Russians' thing, which doesn't in any case seem to be having much impact.

Hmm. How many byelections are there in the term of a parliament on average, I wonder.

Speaker can only select four amendments for division on the final day of debate, labour will have one for sure - plaid and SNP have tabled a joint one, lib dems have tabled one, greens +lammy have tabled one

Labour have proposed a series of amendments though, haven't tabled anything yet I think

Very possible it won't get a vote

There was more than 20 in the 2010-2015, but that was mostly UKIP defections and grandstanding by-elections by said UKIP defections and also Goldsmith's protest vote against the runway which he lost.

There were 10 since 2015 (would have been 11 but the GE meant Kaufman's death didn't trigger one)

all in all time to get your voting hands on cuz we're gonna see some IMO.

The abortion amendment seems like a good one to push. It would really help people if it passed and if it fails it will at least expose the lie that the DUP have no influence over the social policies of this government.

Labour would need to throw its combined weight behind it which it probably won't as its sister party, the SDLP, are opposed to abortion reform.

Though the issue is not about NI domestic policy but about English policy and a governmental belief that it should make no provisions based on a "respect" for the NI assemblies position on the issue - a "respect" we should remember the last Labour government had as they too failed to make any such provisions

This DUP deal is scandalous right? I mean it's just a political party using public funds to directly bribe its way into power. It's like outright corruption.

My arch-Tory boss is furious about it. Not that there's any chance of him becoming one of the Corbyn faithful, but even Tories can see it for what it is.

it's an issue that's settled, and as such is "safe" - you can be as anti abortion as you like, poo poo ain't changing anywhere in the UK most likely and it's a great pitch at social conservative/catholic voters. i bet there are more then you'd guess

it's going to go over like a lead balloon- if i'm not mistaken there are enough Scottish tory MPs and (maybe?) enough Welsh ones to lose their majority who will get good and furious about an unequal distribution, and England is going to be hopping mad regardless.
