His story hasn't come out yet. Journalism takes time. (he isn't a journalist, he's a source, and he lets the journalists do their job instead of announcing poo poo, he just lets people know when it's coming)

Reminder it isn't without precedent for someone to go to extraordinary lengths because of medical care, like that guy that tried robbing a bank back in 2015 to pay for his daughter's chemo treatments. Killing the politicians responsible for the system would actually go further toward fixing things than sitting around wringing hands.

Your Taint posted:So tick tick tick guy was full of poo poo? Well, a Washington Post story came out yesterday insinuating that Carter Page (Trump campaign member and suggested Trump-Putin go between from Steele dossier) talked with the FBI extensively and without a lawyer. Essentially, it indicates that he has completely flipped. If he knows anything that could be used as evidence of collusion, either alone or in the context of the wider investigation, then this would be a bombshell. Problem is, the results of the interview were not mentioned. And, if they were important, the FBI would keep it locked down and share it only with Mueller until it comes time to clean house. Basically, this article came out with the right timing and subject matter to look like the bomb, but it is such a dud people here are questioning whether or not it what Wittes was talking about. Here is the article: https://twitter.com/washingtonpost/status/879443489540493312

Your Taint posted:So tick tick tick guy was full of poo poo? Probably not, but it depends on how you interpret the ticking. Wittes (and his coworkers) are well connected in the intelligence community and the FBI. His blog is also wellread by journalists, especially anyone on those beats. This makes him a valuable resource for journalists who are looking to confirm scoops/leaks they've received (like what the Intercept was trying to do when they hosed up and put Winner on a silver platter) and for leakers who are trying to find safe journalists to work with. The result is that he's got a pretty good sense of when something big is going to drop, but doesn't have the control of exactly when it comes out.

Your Taint posted:So tick tick tick guy was full of poo poo? absolutely not. Whatever he is hinting at hasn't come out yet but he's not just some drama queen making twitter noise. The first time he posted tick tick tick was when the story about jeff sessions being asked to leave the room so comey could be asked to swear loyalty. And the ticking was the countdown to the article “Comey Told Sessions: Don’t Leave Me Alone With Trump.” the other tick tick tick was him physically getting the comey memos and reading them and knowing they had been released to the press and were going to be published soon. Like he's a guy that actually has actual inside information. Maybe someday he will overuse his tick tick tick gimmick and nothing will come out, but he hasn't used it to hype up anything that hasn't eventually come out as a big drat deal.

The other part of this picture is that Trump will be chatting to Leo Varadkar, the brand-new Taoiseach (sorta PM) of Ireland, who happens to be a gay brown man who pretty openly hates Trump. Sure that will be a fun chat, especially after his predecessor gently roasted Trump in his Paddy's Day speech at the WH. e: lol Leo Varadkar posted:“I do promise that if I have the chance to go to the White House in March to meet president Trump, while I won’t make any references to the West Wing,” he said. In case anyone forgot, the collective sneer for Greenwald calling CNN reckless is that he exposed his source - Reality Winner - for The Intercept's scoop on Russian election hacking, and in a totally amateur way too. She's now being prosecuted in federal court. Also, in case anyone forgot, Reality Winner is one of the dumbest names ever bestowed upon a human, ever.

Dumb question I have: I know employers buy group plans for their employees and save costs by getting 30 or 40 people or whatever into one plan. Is there anything stopping groups of, say, 50 or 100 private random citizens banding together to purchase something similar? edit: also what's the logic behind the proposed 6 month waiting period if you lapse? How does that accomplish or help anything? It seems strictly punitive.

Much like the Republicans he was expecting to have the specter of Evil Hillary and the CIA to rage against, and now finds himself in an upside down world where the only thing he really feels sure about is that the intelligence community and mainstream media are bad, which means he stands in accidental solidarity with heinous people like O'Keefe, Hannity, and Trump himself.

It's the republican's replacement for the individual mandate and it's supposed to encourage people to have health insurance even if they don't necessarily need it (because otherwise they'll get locked out when they do need it). However, it's a terrible idea that would end up hurting a lot of people who need care.

Sloober posted:Red tape and the only people capable of doing that already get insurance through their work Can you elaborate on "red tape"? I don't see how it'd be any more complicated than what most poelpe already deal with health insurance wise. And I'm just wondering if it's allowable and doable in the strictest sense. Like, could a put up a Craigslist ad that says "Uninsured? Pool needed for group health insurance plan. The more people the lower the cost". Also, if the US were to move to single payer, have we factored in what happens to the millions of people who work in the health care field when we factor in economic impact. Isn't healthcare like 20% of our economy or something? Do we just move those people into the government system?
