Communism will help more white people than anyone else. Any equal measures unfairly provide less to minority populations just because there's less of them. Democracy is truly the tyranny of the mob.

hard to really call it a "massive push" when they never even finished the bill. the never passed the funding mechanism through the senate, which would require a 2/3rds vote. and they didn't bother because the governor would just veto it anyway

so why'd they have to kill it prematurely, instead of letting it run its course? if the dems kill a singlepayer bill, in a state they have a supermajority in, it really shows they have no intention whatsoever to pass singlepayer. ever.

I believe you'll find plenty of dems that will go along with it, and of course bad dems refusing to support various states single-payer programs using gop arguments. So what is the difference?

I guess you just don't understand how to be wonky and pragmatic. Speaking of, I don't get how "wonk" is still a word people use to describe themselves as if it was a good thing.

the bill essentially died in the senate when they couldn't find enough votes to pass it there with a supermajority, and it had no prospect for passage in the assembly. the governor is a hippy weirdo who believes we should live in tiny wooden huts in a forest to preserve our planet, so he's gonna veto it too. so rendon killed it because he'd rather take all the heat for it dying than subject his members to dealing with a zombie bill.

it passed the senate, it got shelved in the assembly instead of even being debated. i thought you were paid to know this kind of stuff?

or he has no actual beliefs and will say whatever he thinks will get him votes (except if it interferes with him getting bribes!)

The American Prospect posted:

Brown’s skepticism about governmental endeavors—even as he champions a rail system that may become the biggest public-works program in the nation—has been a hallmark of his career.
[...]
During Brown’s first eight years as governor, he often went out of his way to break with the practices and assumptions of both politics and liberalism. His father had funded universities and social welfare programs by raising taxes, disproportionately but not exclusively on the rich. Jerry, by contrast, proclaimed in 1976 that the state (and the nation and the planet) had entered an “era of limits.” In lieu of the Democrats’ romance with growth and public works, he preached the need to clean up the air. His budgets for the universities and for social benefits were no more generous than Reagan’s, and sometimes even less so. “When Jerry Brown talks about lowering expectations,” Jerome Lackner, briefly Brown’s state health director, said at the time, “he’s really talking about lowering expectations for the poor, the mentally ill, and the disabled.”
[...]
Staffed by a cadre of leftist activists and an aging Parisian bohemian, Brown called for increased worker rights, but he also backed supply-side economist Arthur Laffer’s proposal to supplant the progressive income tax with both a flat tax and a value-added tax.

dems have a supermajority in the assembly, but somehow they can't scrounge together enough votes to pass a singlepayer bill by a dem governor. this can't be because dems don't want singlepayer! it's just cause we haven't elected enough dems yet!!

you misunderstand. the senate bill passed 23-14. you need 27 votes in the ca senate to pass a tax increase, which would be needed in a single payer bill. so they only passed a skeleton bill without funding mechanisms (which would need a majority). they didn't have the ability to pass the entire bill through the senate. the senate is generally considered easier for single payer than the assembly, so this was a bad sign.

they have a supermajority. why can they not pass anything at all? how many more democrats have to be in power before democrats start passing democratic legislation instead of republican legislation and compromises with republicans!?

you have trump about to try to inflict insurancelessness on a poo poo ton of people, and instead of california dems shielding their constituents they're sitting with their thumbs up their asses and killing bills prematurely cause they answer to bribes more than they answer to their constituents.
