Eh, I think there is more to it than just that. I've seen people in the past defending sexualized depictions of underaged characters in anime and their reason has more or less been "it's not real" and that's just a big ol' can of worms that I feel very strongly about. I used to think of DT as harmless enough mainly because he's just so earnest about his love of the game that was made specifically for no purpose other than sexual pandering, but given how many characters in said games are under 18, I just don't feel comfortable with abiding by that or defending that kind of stuff. I feel like even if that kind of media isn't hurting any real life minors, that it still normalizes those kinds of thoughts and that we shouldn't be trying to treat sexual depictions of minors as normal, ever. That's just my opinion though.

imo there is nothing wrong with making a game where all the girls are sexy and whathaveyou, but there has to be some kind of substance to prop all that t-n'-a up, and from what I've seen games of that style often lack that substance. That's the part that I think gives it a bad rep.

edit: Games like Senran Kagura and its ilk are perfectly willing to acknowledge that the booby factor is all that really matters, and good on them for at least being honest about it instead of saying "nooo Quiet has to breathe through her SKIN like a plant". However, I think that doesn't diminish the effect they have on the perception of people who don't play those kinds of games.

I'm not really looking for Sexy Game but if it exists I don't really care. Sexy Game About Sexy Teenagers though is creepy. I enjoy plenty of games that happen to feature those elements but it's always in spite of and I don't blame anyone for being creeped out by it. Frantically rubbing out the number 16 and replacing it with an 18 doesn't really change much, it just makes people sound like those (to date myself incredibly) creeps who kept a countdown until the Olson Twins were legal or that dude in Transformers who carries around a statutory rape law in his wallet.

I don't think those games are okay at all when half (or most?) the characters are underage/in high school.

I wouldn't care either if it didn't breed the kind of person who never tries genuinely good video games like Valkyria Chronicles because they have the same bobble-headed sparkle-eyed characters as Senran Kagura.

I don't know if any of the characters were 100,000,000 years old but trapped in the body of a 12 year old though, so maybe I should be reluctant to admit I liked it.

Yeah, basically this. I mean, I don't mind T&A but it'd be cool if people that put T&A into their games would just admit they did so because they wanted to put T&A into their games instead of trying to come up with some excuse for it.

It's not really your problem to apologize for the developers putting in problematic stuff so if you liked the game independent of whatever that stuff is then more power to you.

liking big tits doesn't mean you don't respect women, lol

like, the senkags games have so much female staff that the vas for the three male characters that exist joked about feeling uncomfortable, and the game's director consults with his wife every five seconds. im not saying that to excuse the games from being freaking weird, because they are, and if people are put off by them, then, that makes sense, but i believe big tits are something that people from all walks of life and all genders can enjoy and want to put into a video game. god bless the human soul.

"a ton of care put into its presentation" is certainly one way of putting it :v: Though I'm legit curious what you found enjoyable about it because when I saw the gameplay, it didn't look like a good rhythm game and the people that were playing for the visuals would likely not be able to concentrate on those anyway because of the rhythm game thing. I mean, not bashing you for enjoying it, I'm just curious. Also yeah as far as the cast goes, a good half of them are in the 15-16 range so given what the rhythm game involves doing, that gets pretty gross.

I believe in a universe that doesn't care, and people that do.

I feel like for whatever reason, it's become more ok to be a mainstream creepazoid about fictional sexualized kids. Even 10 years ago, outside of certain very specific circles, no one would admit to buying something like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWEiccW5l4Q

But now you have a lot of people, some on the comments of that specific video, being loud and proud on social media about how they think there's zero problems with underage video game/anime titty. "It's fictional" has become an acceptable excuse for some truly vile content, and people who have a problem with it are painted as "SJW"s who want to "censor gaming". It's not a cultural shift I enjoy, and sometimes it causes me to act lovely to normal anime fans. Which I guess is my way of saying sorry to Endorph, even if they're defending a horrendous game series right now.

im not really defending senkags, i totally get why people would have problems with it and i have problems with a lot of elements of it to, my only post explaining anything about it in this thread was just an explanation of why people shouldn't boil it down to a 'men vs women' thing, especially in a way that very quickly becomes 'men vs me, an enlightened man' and pretty much ignores all female voices even though the argument's about women and their depiction in media

I'm probably exaggerating then, I only played about two songs way back when it first released. I remember enjoying that the cooking battle that played in the background would be cartoonishly more exaggerated in size the better you did at playing the song. Maybe I've just got a soft spot for Food Porn and nonsense anime action during mundane tasks like cooking.

I am still so annoyed that Play Asia used an out of context comment by a japanese dev to turn the latest DOA volleyball game into some kind of gamergate issue so that people thought they were sticking it to feminists by buying a lovely imported softcore game.

I am ok with sexuality and titillation in games but I think context is everything.
