Yeah, basically this. I mean, I don't mind T&A but it'd be cool if people that put T&A into their games would just admit they did so because they wanted to put T&A into their games instead of trying to come up with some excuse for it.

Being honest and open about your big titty fetishes in games or any other form of media is still kind of offputting to me because it causes me to think about the ethos and mindset of a person who thought this was something I wanted to see in a game about wizards.

that was just a poorly made joke, he just really liked drawing the male characters shirtless but nobody wanted him to do that for promotional art or whatever, so he went 'ah, if they don't want the titty witch, i have an excuse to draw this'

Oh yeah defs, it's weird either way, I just prefer them being honest if I had to pick between "honestly stating they just like T&A" and "coming up with an excuse for why there is T&A"

I mean, personally, I don't mind T&A but I want it on my terms, not just playing a game and out of nowhere "oh hey here we go, tons of fanservice" or "hey buddy, you're looking through your steam discovery queue, do you want this fanservice game?" It's tough explaining to people why you happen to enjoy a particular piece of media if the media in question is blatantly fanservicey because it makes you look like a creep and sound like the kind of people that say they read playboy for the articles as an excuse for looking at the centerfolds

I think romance plots and romance mechanics are distinct enough that it's fair to wonder about one. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has a really good romance story in it, that I think most people can enjoy. Whatever's going on in Fallout 4 is weird and bad.

Bioware romances turned from curiosities in BG2 to the entire selling point of the game by the time of Dragon Age. To me most of them feel pretty skeezy as they usually culminate in some awkward nude scene and it's usually clear which character the writers really want you to gently caress.

People are good at compartmentalizing things, which I am now questioning whether that is an actual term, but I think it is. Though this has me thinking now, where has this apparent idea that you have to like 100% of something or there's a problem come from? Even outside of the current conversation you see a lot of people throwing babies out with bathwater or bristling at even minor criticism.

There are some games and shows I like despite fan service. The fan service, you know, just actively hinders really getting into those works, but as long as people keep buying it, publishers will keep selling it.
