Lipstick Apathy
my election night was horrible. i was visiting some friends in austin and it was pouring down loving raining like loving cats and dogs and loving. ENDLESS. RAIN. also my friends handled the loss badly and got paranoid. like a weed high paranoia except without the weed, or the chill for that matter.

we decided to go to some election parties but it was all over for hillary before we set out. first party was a socialist city council candidate, who won. largely hispanic and left-wing crowd who had a steelier attitude about the whole thing. and they were at least happy they won the city council seat.

next party was like... tumblr feminists? there was at least one hillary shirt. they did not handle it well. one of them grabbed a trump pinata and ran outside and started bashing it on the ground with a baseball bat while screaming YOU SON OF A BITCH. it was like the apocalypse. people crying, etc.

it was a bad scene

like the time in the 08 primary when hillary tried to say obama was unrealistic about saying his social movement would do good things because

quote:

“I would point to the fact that Dr. King’s dream began to be realized when President Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, when he was able to get through Congress something that President Kennedy was hopeful to do, the president before had not even tried, but it took a president to get it done,” Clinton said during her heated contest with Barack Obama. “That dream became a reality, the power of that dream became real in people’s lives, because we had a president who said we are going to do it and actually got it accomplished.”

Hillary Clinton today cited the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy during the 1968 presidential campaign to explain why she was remaining in the race despite long odds.

"We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California," Clinton told the editorial board of a South Dakota newspaper. " I don't understand it," Clinton added, alluding to the calls for her to quit.

Clinton made the statement after pointing out that her husband didn't lock up the nomination until June of 1992, trying to point out that, by past history, it's not late in the campaign.

BOOP

Thinking back to November 8th, it certainly has been an interesting journey. But as Trump has shown himself to govern as a bog standard Republican, all that fear has been replaced and added to the considerable anger I have for Democrats. Even fearful as I was of what Trump was going to do and what awful forces he was going to empower in this country after election night, there was that naive belief that "Well now the Democrats have to change." I couldn't have been more wrong.

The status quo has made the American people so crazy, fearful, and desperate that they chucked what they thought was a live grenade into the White House. After it turned out to be a dud, the Democratic response has been Russia is Bad, America is already Great, and impeach Trump. Bing bong. So simple.

The last couple of weeks have been particularly bad in my personal quest to not being 100% mad at Democrats all day every day. The DNC lit $40 million on fire so Ossof could run a campaign of "Republicans are actually right about everything, but they are really mean about it so vote for me instead" towards people that would slit the throat of a child in front of it's mother if they thought any tax breaks might spill out. Bigger than that though was the ever-increasing cascading wall of bullshit in California. Not only have they proven that they have no interest in making things better for their voters but they will use every ounce of their institutional power to crush anyone that tries to work within their party to do so.

I really don't know what you do with the Democrats at this point and the electoral system is setup to be incredibly hostile to third parties. The only, admittedly crazy, thing that come to mind is to protest their donors directly. Name and shame them publicly until they stop giving money to the Democrats. Force the Democrats to be a people's party or be no party at all.

it's more that we've gone all-in on a capitalist culture in which our only purpose is to produce things for the wealthy and then buy those things from the wealthy, while American society has been redivided into nothing more than advertising demographics
