People do realize that the Risk Corridor payments aren't a "bailout" and are in fact dollars promised to insurance companies through federal law, right? If a company needs a Risk Corridor payment that means they essentially gave away a bunch of free healthcare because they didn't charge a high enough premium for the claims they paid out. It's not like they took the premiums, set them on fire, and didn't pay out any claims.

Pellisworth posted:They control certification for med schools and residency programs so they can dictate the number of new MDs graduating each year. On one hand labor unions are cool and good, on the other it increases cost of healthcare and reduces access. American doctors are paid way more and there are fewer of them per capita than in any other developed nation. Medical school throughput already exceeds residency program spots, so increasing the number of medical schools will only result in inadequately-trained physicians. Residency programs are accredited by the ACGME -- the AOA accredits DO residency programs but is merging the the ACGME and all programs will fall under the oversight of the ACGME by 2020. The AMA is one of the member organizations of the ACGME, but is not by any means the sole determinant of accreditation. Furthermore, the largest hurdle facing GME expansion is funding. In 1996 the government froze Medicare funding for GME programs, so for over twenty years the only way for a residency program to grow is for the hospital itself to fund it. One should also note that the member organizations of the ACGMA -- including the AMA -- have lobbied for years to reverse the Medicare GME freeze so that more residency positions can open, so that subsequently more students can graduate from medical school and obtain appropriate training.

But that would be cruel, fake, and evil, and we're better than that, right?

If there's no doubt among the intelligence community that Russia was involved then there's probably a lot of hints pointing to the sources.
