Are there democrat politicians who talk about nothing but Russia? I figured this was mostly a media thing they like to cover.

Because Russia having a hand in our election is a really big deal. It's not about trying to turn republicans on Trump, but not letting foreign governments use their powers and influence on other governments. There's also, you know, being able to care about more than one thing at the same time.
Its more that a lot of democrat pundits and politicians are using Russia as a excuse for their defeats and not having any self reflection of what the party has become and that maybe they should perhaps float the idea of trying to be more progressive.

I can see you in 1973 smugly opining that if the Democrats hadn't got anything to hide, why did Nixon have their headquarters burgled?

The Russian meddling in US elections is a BIG DEAL, since if it is allowed to continue (as you seem to desire) then no election result will be trusted in the future - and when it doesn't go your way, perhaps you might feel that is a problem. Too many people seem to be like "I didn't want Hillary to win, so who cares whether Russia hacked her? She sucked." And I don't think you'd have been so relaxed if it had been Bernie/Trump (whoever your guy was) getting hacked.

I'm not sure how you can translate "some Democrats are using the Russia thing as an excuse not to discuss issues" into "I actively support Russian interventionism in American politics" unless you're viewing the world through your Louise Mensch goggles

Whether Russian meddling is allowed to continue is not correlated to exactly how big a stink Democrats make of it in the meantime. Let Mueller do his job, and in the meantime, represent the interests of your constituency. :colbert:

Letting Mueller do his job is not mutually exclusive from making a big stink at any opportunity. Republicans did that for something much faker than this and it only benefitted them so I say go at it.

I'm imagining a bizarro D&D discussion on the Freep forums in 2013

one guy goes "guys, by focusing all our energy on the Benghazi thing we're letting Obummer get away with", I dunno, let's say "TAKIN ALL OUR GUNS"
and then another guy goes "What, are you saying you want our brave ambassadors to get killed even more in the future?"

Anyway my point is that just as Benghazi is fake but Russia is real, gun-grabbing is fake but the AHCA is real so we need to make sure we point sufficient outrage in that direction too thanks in advance

It's more correlated than you might think. If the public loses interest, this will be quietly buried.

And raising a stink over it does not prevent also raising a stink over healthcare. Do you want the Republicans to be able to DOS the Democrats/the public by doing too many evil things to keep the public's attention on any single one?

(a) no it won't, if mueller finds a smoking gun it'll have exactly as much merit as it would with nobody paying attention before
(b) I'm not calling for the public to lose interest in it anyway

The charge from achillesforever6's post is that some pols and pundits are using the Russia scandal to avoid talking about other things. If they talk about both things I'm fine. It just can't be all RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA all the time because you know what public outcry DOES affect? Whether unpopular bills make their way through Congress. :colbert:
