He seems like a good 3rd line center but yeah the money he's going to want for that is likely to be higher than it's worth. Rangers are basically checking out all the available centers anyways it sounds like (Thornton, Marleau, Bonino). Not sure if they sign any of them depending on what the asking price is

There needs to be a term to distinguish between players who are poo poo on because they are really bad and you wouldn't want at an price and players who are salary cap bad who are decent or even good players but get poo poo on because they are hurting their team by making dumb money.

Rick Nash comes to mind for the latter group. Dude is a goddamn defensive force, incredible on the forecheck and PK, but he just doesn't seem to consistently score enough to be worth his cap hit. He'd be incredible around 5.5mil per.

i'll probably eat my words, but i'm not so sure bonino is going to get a huge payday. maybe if HBK had been a thing again, but he had a pretty mediocre regular season this year and wasn't as clutch in the playoffs as he seemed last year. he doesn't score a lot and he doesn't hit a lot, so i'm not sure he's the type of player that GMs will go crazy for on the flip side, the irrationality of NHL GMs knows no bounds, so i also won't be at all surprised if he gets a big dumb contract

I think Bonino's will end up making somewhere close to 4 million a year for 3 years. Unless he stays with the pens and give some a discount. Also, let's bring Jordan Staal back to Pittsburgh, just so I can scream "Staal face spotted" every time he scores in te playoffs. Rumors today were that the Pens were interested in Duchesn again. The talk was a Prospect (or maybe 2, or some draft pick/prospect combination) and Maatta for him.
