Don't they have a test server to test this stuff out? Kind of confusing.

I know old TSW had a test server, does Legends have a test server?

Legends. It's free to play. And, in spite of a lot of the negativity in this thread, it's actually pretty great for the story.

Like ESO, though, you should not play it as an MMO. If you stampede to level 50, or plan to level via grinding dungeons, you're going to be upset. There's not much endgame right now, given how strange the dungeon loot seems to be.

If you play it as a neat indie-ish story game, it's very fun.

I'm amazed at the number of versatile assets they have in the game. It's been a long time since I've played a PC-only release, I guess, and it REALLY shows how much more immersive they can be. I'm only in the first area, Kingsmouth, but each different storefront has its own unique branding and lettering style - you know, just like a real town would actually have. When you look around at things, you notice all the handpainted detail that went into it. That's part of the game - seeing numbers on a wall and using them later, or noting a strange symbol carved into the wood of the fence. I think they made a very smart choice to not let me zoom my camera around; the graphics are definitely dated but the whole customized look to it definitely works for them. The art department did very well with a limited budget. It's consistent, it's clean, and it's actually well done.

Sweet summer child

Please people, if you want to play for the story play Classic Secret World. You'll save yourself money on the story packs than with TSWL monetization, and everything said could be done so for the old game.

If I could I'd say don't give these people anymore money period, but I do still love what they tried to do way back when.

SWL is a 'play with the girlfriend on the weekend' game for me and I love it for the same reasons. If I went hardcore MMO player on SWL it wouldn't work out because the game is built more for the ride then for the endgame. As an experience that's shared with a small group, it's fantastic. I treat it like a small, modern D&D campaign. When I'm not playing with GF I'll do elites/NMs and try raiding but I know it's not going to be the same as a game that's built for that kind of progression/challenging endgame play like wow or ff14. It's a STO where the missions are the content.

E: If you're playing for the story, why not do SWL? There is zero reason that a story player (someone who will be doing every quest) will need to grind for XP or bulk up their items to tri-pip 30 purples. Maybe Tokyo will be different with however AEGIS looks in SWL, but playing the core story is absolutely doable as a free player.

I don't understand how SWL is an improvement. There is nothing here that TSW didn't do better and have more of for no cash shop cost.

If they wanted to do this poo poo then they should have just made TSW2 in Unreal engine so they have staff that can make more game and not this UI modder fuckup squad they got going. gently caress that guy with the purple hair in particular.

The irony is that Funcom pulled Joel Bylos off TSW to make their current bankroll Conan Exiles that sold well on steam and then promptly hosed TSW right in the ground turning it into a lovely casino. All the while Ragnar Tørnquist with his glorious "o" founded a sub game studio to work on Dreamfall Chapters (Which he got funded by Kickstarter alone) because he wrote 10 years of story for TSW and they barely used any of it. Now that Dreamfall Chapters is done I have no loving clue what Ragnar is doing other than compulsive tweeting.

Funcom can't cross the street without coughing up the ball. They just need to sit those two fucks back in a room and throw money on them and they will get their payday again. Instead we get this purple hair gently caress.

So, what affixes are best for a dps weapon, Destruction? Also, I know from this thread if I am going blade, I should focus on that exclusively. Should I stick with my elemental as a secondary for pulling mobs? Or swap to something like pistol? Or is that something that has a really good passive?

If you're getting a one-ability secondary, make sure it's an early ability so you can save your AP to put into your main tree. I think ele is a great choice for pulling and quick finishers when your main is recharging.

Each weapon only impacts its own skill. If you open your char sheet there's a button to check your primary/secondary stats to see what each weapon will lend to its abilities.

FWIW, I hit level 50 about half-way through City of the Sun God and am not really having any major issues upgrading my weapons and gear. They are all blues, mind you, but it's not as dire as it sounds. The content is waaaaay easier than it was in TSW - which could be good or bad for you - and the upgrade system is probably fine up through to purples. The thing is, it hasn't been out for very long, so there is a hope that they will eventually fix some of the bullshit - or not, then they will start losing players.

There are some quests that will take up a huge chunk of your inventory and if you forget or don't know they're coming up you're kind of hosed since you can't delete any items to make room for the quest poo poo you need. Honestly the inventory situation is plain unacceptable above all else that's wrong with it. In the other one I have 180 slots all bought with ingame money, not that you need that many but it lets me carry around a ton of fun items and most importantly alternate gear sets, you're not doing that here since even having one alternate set will eat up too much of your inventory.

The upgrade system isn't really that bad. Yeah the whole Faded -> Luminous -> Radiant poo poo is really obnoxious, especially regarding dungeon items. And the weapon system with random affixes makes it even worse. But the main grind is AP/SP. Hope you enjoy using 2 weapons (and maybe a 3rd if you were really conservative with your first twos abilities) for the foreseeable future. I have actives for 3 because I didn't buy the trap capstone talents but only passives to really support 1 weapon fully and Shotgun as a secondary (because you only need like 50 AP and 100SP to get all good actives/passives in Shotgun).

HotBobaloo posted:

No. Run blade solo. You need all but one slot. In hard content (if it ever comes out) replace Elemental with Shotgun for Opening Shot or Fist for Savagery. You'll either drop your Blade Elite, Soothing Spring, or Rushing River for Opening Shot/Savagery.

You're right - inventory is one of the bigger issues that's going to come up with f2p players. I haven't bought any space so I don't know what the cost is beyond the initial 7500 MoF. If it stays a flat rate then I could maybe see that as being reasonable, but if it scales to tens of thousands or even aurum, it's definitely way too much.

Anyone have more numbers?

Morglon

It's twice that for the next five slots then it jumps straight to 400 aurum. Didn't spend that so I don't know what comes next but 400 aurum for five slots is loving highway robbery. I mean it comes down on how the exchange rates are that day but that doesn't change the fact that someone dropped real money for that and there's no way around it.

SWL is such an awkward mix of interesting ideas and terrible implementation. There are parts of the new gear system I'm actually okay with, but the pips and difficulty of finding the item you want to START upgrading makes it infinitely dumber than it needs to be.

What it really comes down to is Aurum: you need it to upgrade items past purple, you need it to upgrade item pips... if these costs were in Marks and not Aurum, it'd smooth out a lot of problems. Unfortunately, short-term profit above all seems to be their goal.

Going from 25 to 30 and then 30 to 35 slots costs Marks. All future inventory upgrades cost Aurum, as do all bank space upgrades from the start. For F2P players, this is a huge problem.

Energy seems to be the all around best, but from what I can tell Destruction isn't bad. The movespeed one is good to have on a dedicated secondary weapon.

heads up that once you get up to the 10-20ish range on all your blues you're gonna start running out of anima shards, at least if you're playing the way I am and 100%ing zones. they fooled me with the cheap upgrades on greens. ground myself down to just about zero. I'm thinking of maybe only feeding items, or at least the side-blues I'm leveling to go purple, their matching type 250 xp items for a bit until I get a shard stash back.

this doesn't actually matter all that much because you need two to upgrade tier anyway, so you can boost up an item you're not in love with while waiting for one you do like to drop/show up cheap on the AH. I haven't looked, but I've heard there are a bunch of 3-pip items for sale right now.

weird! I think by 100%ing I end up with a lot more items than someone who isn't, which means I do more merging and level my items further/cost myself more--lemme look real quick--everything is blue except wrist, head is 25, neck is 10, belt is 21, occult and wrist are 0, shotgun is 24, blood is 10. are you in a similar item level range?

Taking a look at it, the early quests give you like 250 a pop and the later ones 600 a pop.

doing all the low level zones seems like a good way for items, but not money, and those blues do get more expensive as you level up

It is also capped on how many items you get back. Drinkfist had posted an item on the AH that two other players could not see, even after he reposted it.
