Then it is time, in the name of humanity's morale, to deploy my magnum opus;

Battle Cry of Terran Freedom

Yes we'll rally round the Earth, folks, we'll rally once again,
Shouting the Battle Cry of Freedom!
We will gather from the homeworld, and from the Gaian plain,
Shouting the Battle Cry of Freedom!

CHORUS:
Humanity Forever! Hurrah, Earth, Hurrah!
Down with the xenos, cleanse every star;
While we rally round the Earth, folks, rally once again,
Shouting the Battle Cry of Freedom!

We are launching to the call of our people gone before,
Shouting the Battle Cry of Freedom!
And we'll fill the vacant ranks with a million MIs more,
Shouting the Battle Cry of Freedom!

(CHORUS)

We will welcome to our numbers the loyal, true, and brave,
Shouting the Battle Cry of Freedom!
And to the dreaded xenos none shall ever be a slave,
Shouting the Battle Cry of Freedom!

(CHORUS)

We are flying to the stars, folks, we're going to the fight
Shouting the Battle Cry of Freedom!
And we bear the glorious stars for the Homeworld and the right,
Shouting the Battle Cry of Freedom!

(CHORUS)

The UN commissions small vessels to begin transporting important documents and VIPs between worlds.

We enter a defensive pact with the Kitsu.

Human shock troops are recruited for the inevitable war.

The Turexmians notice this and declare us their mortal enemy.

Humans seem more eager to go to the stars now.

Billions on Earth hold parties to watch a comet blaze through space. While in past eras a comet was interpreted as a bad omen, today it is seen as a thing of beauty, a reminder of the great cosmos they inhabit.

Dr. Batista begins work on how to improve building times.

President Muwanga wins a third term.

Dr. de la Cruz is told that his team needs to work on better military technology. He chooses a system that has civilian applications as well.

Dr. Feher something something volcanoes.

The surface of Venus is now known to house a starship graveyard. Some in the science community on earth joke that they can hear Dr. Dietrich going on one of his paranoid rants from light-years away. (Venus is now considered a 5 mineral mining world.)

Dr. Dietrich sees islands floating over the surface of Danid IV, suspended in midair. While surveying the star of the system, though, what he sees amazes him. The star itself seems to be the home to plasma-based life-forms.

Gaia's Landing completes construction of its own stardock, the first orbiting another world.

Dr. de la Cruz continues his military research.

Military ships are moved to the Turexmian border.

The Trinikans offer a research agreement, and it is accepted.

On 2224.03.29, the General Assembly sends a declaration of war to the Turexmians.

"Whereas the Turexmian Trading Consortium has committed crimes against the economy and the people of the United Nations of Earth: Therefore it be Resolved by the General Assembly that the state of war between the United Nations and the Turexmian Trading Consortium is hereby formally declared."

We're not going for annexation?

Or at least vassalization?

I don't think I've ever made a tributary in Stellaris before... is that new with a recent patch? Not sure as to the benefits, especially this early in a game.

Tributary is definitely the most fitting given that they hosed over our economy and caused a decade-long recession. Their counter-demands are

It is a little weird that "pay us some money every month" is equal in value as a victory condition to "cede every one of your planets."

Do each side's victory conditions have to have equal value in Stellaris?

I once declared an early war to remove an encroaching Frontier Outpost from my borders, and also to see how it works. Their demands were, again, "Cede your entire civilization".

This was, admittedly, so early that I only actually had my homeworld to cede.

The reason is probably just that we've got very equal economies comparatively. It is pretty funny that "cede planet" is valued at roughly equal value as "give me % income from planet", but maybe that's to make the various conquest options equivalent?

It's because it's the early game and the empires are so small. Later on 3 planets will cost a laughably small warscore whereas making tributes typically sit at around 60% war score throughout the game.

The UN-Turexmian War: Part 1

Our fleets meet in the Ujqiohr system. We believe that their entire military force is concentrated in the one fleet.
They have ships that are larger than our corvettes, but we outnumber them in power.

They seem to rely on missile technology to attack, which gives them slight advantages at distance.

While the war happens, the Parids (!) offer a non-agression pact to us. We agree quickly.

Research into more effective weaponry is ordered.

Despite heavy losses, the 1st Fleet drives off the 1st Hunting Party. Two of their destroyers flee the system.

Information from the debris from the battle is sent to scientific and engineering communities on Earth.

More Anacondas are ordered built.

An article in one of Earth's greater newspapers describes the UN's ambitions as "something of a Galactic Manifest Destiny."

Orbital bombardment of Kbogas, one of the Ujqiohr planets, begins. Targets are specifically set as military sites, the goal to minimize civilian casualties.

Shock troops are dispatched to the surface of Kbogas...

and in a short time it is considered successfully controlled by the UN.

His work on improved weaponry completed, Dr. Batista moves to design larger ships, like the ones the Turexmians have.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY
We have completed the Expansion tradition branch, and as such, we get to choose our first Ascension Perk. Here are the five we have available to us:

  • Interstellar Dominion: +25% Border Range
  • Technological Ascendancy: +10% Research Speed
  • One Vision: +30% Governing Ethics Attraction, +10% Unity Output
  • Mastery of Nature: We gain the ability to clear most tile blockers, and clearing tile blockers becomes free (that is, we don't need to pay Minerals and Energy to clear them)
  • Imperial Prerogative: +5 Core Sector Systems

Mastery of Nature

For if we cannot master Nature, then how can we claim dominion over the apple of Nature's eye: the sapient species of the galaxy?

Let us therefore embark upon first mastering Nature, and then, only then, with Nature well in hand, shall we begin the arduous journey that will inevitably bring us to galactic domination.

Mastery of Nature Colonies tend to have a lot of downtime when they're first being established, population growth taking time and all, being able to use that time to clear out all the blockers at no expense to the treasury will give us a hell of an edge. It also means we can get at many of the resource bonuses early in a given colony's life, letting us reap the rewards all the sooner.

Mastery of Nature, cause if I don't misremember we have yet to unlock any of the Tile Clearer techs which means selecting that one saves us SOO much in Research, Minerals and Energy, which especially in the Early Game can be rather scarce.

Adding my vote for Mastery of Nature with the caveat that Technological Ascendancy should be our second choice. Both of these pay off massive dividends and never stop being almost universally useful (Well, MoN will /eventually/ wear out when there's no more planets to claim, but IIRC it's also a prerequisite for the terraforming one)
