Shattenkirk only makes sense for Buffalo if they plan on trading Ristolainen and you know some dumb as poo poo GM would trade a ton for him. The only thing Ristolainen does well is man the PP but Shattenkirk is even better at it (and also better at the other aspects of the game).

Edit: ^^^ but yeah I don't know why Shattenkirk would want to go to Buffalo unless it's just some ridiculous offer.

Shattenkirk is a good fit for Buffalo with or without Ristolainen, but Buffalo is not trading Ristolainen anyway so it doesn't really matter. Ristolainen is also good, not bad

And Shattenkirk would want to go to Buffalo because they're going to be good this year and for the next several years as well

Niemi sucks but if he wants to suck for maybe 20 games for like a million dollars thats probably okay, at least Pittsburgh can give him enough goal support to win a few games in spite of his shittiness too.

Actually 20 games is a lot and thats about as many back to backs as they have so he'd definitely be playing them ruh roh

Aside from the PP Ristolainen is incredibly bad. Someone pull up the fancy stat chart I'm on my phone now. Again there's missing context but Ristolainen bleeds shots against at one of the worst rates in the league. And he doesn't score much at even strength to balance it out. He's closer to Marc Andre Bergeron than a legit top 4 defenseman.

i mean marleau definitely isn't as good as thornton at this point but it wouldn't completely kill me to have him for 2 years i guess. he can still score

that does feel like a really rangers move though - i remember him being linked to the rangers at like 7 different trade deadlines

Per Fanrag Sports, TSN's Pierre LeBrun went on the radio with Vancouver's TSN 1040 on Wednesday, and when asked about the possibility of Shattenkirk playing for the Tampa Bay Lightning, LeBrun went on to speculate the Devils will make the highest offer for the defenseman.

"I mean, it's not impossible," LeBrun said about playing for Tampa Bay. "But I have a feeling that New Jersey will probably have the biggest bid, is my guess. The Devils have the most cap room. Shattenkirk is from the area. Certainly the Devils have a hole there on that side."

I've seen the chart. He's 22, he's been deployed like poo poo by three separate garbage coaches spanning the entirety of his career, and Buffalo as a team has been unable to score at 5on5 for about 4 years now. It's dumb and premature to say he's MAB. If Housley is the least bit competent, Risto will be fine.

The Devils will probably outbid almost everyone for Shattenkirk. They have tons of cap room and have an embarrassingly awful defense.

I suppose the only enticements they could give him is that he is from the area and he will be "the guy" for them. But somehow I feel like he will want to take a little less to play for a serious contender and maybe not have to go night after night playing alongside Ben Lovejoy or Mirco Mueller.

It's almost like the Sabres gutted any defensive depth that they might have had so they relied on a baby defenseman who is still developing to play 30 minutes a night. gently caress Tim Murray foreverrrrrrr

They seem pretty set on having a 1A/1B thing in goal and Elliott seems to be a good fit for that.

$4m/yr for two years is fine for Mason. The Jets don't have cap issues and he'll be gone when they really need to free some room for Laine. Plus by then it will be clear whether Hellebuyck is for real or not.

I also don't think the Jets are really in the running for Alzner because I can't see them committing term and money to bit players when they have to sign Trouba, Morissey, Ehlers, Laine etc over the next couple of years.
